Today's events played on repeat in my mind as Elliana got discharged from the hospital. Carlisle was confused, to say the least, when I insisted that she not got an MRI. He was well aware how protective I am of my future mate, so his confusion was to be expected. I assured him that I would explain everything later, but first, I needed to get answers out of the girl that my heart was yearning for.

Magic? No-Maj? Muggles? When I saw her friend pull out what looked like a wand, I thought I was being punked. 'Jay's' mind was unreadable, same as Elliana's, so I was left to my own defenses as I tried to make sense of everything.

She confessed to Amy that she possessed 'magic', admitting that that was how she saved her... What? None of this made sense, yet at the same time, it did. How many times has Carlisle spoken of a secret wizarding world? All this time, I believed the stories to be tall tales. As nice as the thought of magic is, I never believed it to be reality. Then again— If vampires and werewolves exist, why wouldn't witches? Why was the thought of magic so difficult for me to grasp?

When Elliana's piercing green eyes met mine as she stepped out of the hospital, I realized what a fool I've been. Here I am questioning the existence of magic when that's all I could see when I look at her. The strange, unyielding bond that I have with her had to be the work of magic. A fate bond. Destiny. Not only were we destined in the stars, but, according to Carlisle, she and I were bound by magic.

I wasted no time in flitting to her side, hoping to have a moment alone with her before she met up with her parents.

"Elliana," her name rolled off my tongue, lingering in the air between us as I came to a stop in front of her.

She looked up at me with wary eyes, a delicate blush rushing to her cheeks. "Edward."

I placed my hands in my pockets and rocked back and forth on my heels, growing anxious under her intent gaze. "We, uh... We need to talk."

Wow, could I sound any more ominous?

She pulled her lower lip between her teeth, drawing my eyes, despite my best efforts. My lips tingled at the thought of placing them against hers, despite knowing she was nowhere near ready for that. It was hard telling just how long it would take to earn her heart. I believed myself to be a patient man. After all, I've waited for her for decades, but was it so wrong of me to wish that she would realize our connection sooner rather than later?

If she truly possessed magic, then perhaps she would be more open to our bond? Hope swelled within me at the idea.

Emmett started chanting via his thoughts from across the parking lot. Bro. What's going on? I'm on pins and needles over here.

When Elliana nodded, nibbling on her lower lip as she peered up at me from beneath her lashes, I was nearly undone. How could one girl be so enticing? So irresistible without even trying?
