...

Ding-dong-bing-bong!

"Good morning, everyone! It is now 7 a.m. and nighttime is officially over! Time to rise and shine! Get ready to greet another beautiful day!"

I groaned, and turned on my side. For a moment, just a moment, I had forgotten I was here. Forgotten I wasn't peacefully at home, with my family. It was...nice. But, then that sicko's voice drove me back here. To this reality.

"Normally I'd like to hear the word 'beautiful,' but coming from it..." I shook my head, as if that'd shake all the bad thoughts out. I really wish it would...

Knock-knock-knock!

I looked at my door, then called, "Come in!" A bit later, Golfball pushed the door open, and stepped inside.

"Hey, we're all meeting up in the dining hall for breakfast. You wanna come?" She asked, leaning against the doorframe.

"O-Oh...Yeah!" I slid out of bed, and followed her out of my room and towards the dining hall. "You seem quieter today. Are you okay?"

She sighed, and shook her head. "Yeah, it's just..." She flipped her ponytail over her shoulder, "TD's made...'good' use of the kazoo I gave her."

"Good use? What do you—

BRRZZTTT!

"...I see."

The two of us walked in silence for a few more moments, before we stepped into the dining hall. "Hi, Leafy! GB!" Pin waved us over, "I made everyone food in the kitchen! Eat up!"

I smiled, pleased by Pin's kindness. I grabbed some food from the kitchen and sat down with Ice Cube. Soon, to my surprise, Firey joined us. "Hey, you two." He smiled.

"...I hate to ask, but what's your name again?" Icy questioned.

"Firey Flame. 'M Match's younger brother. Ultimate Lucky Student, too."

"Woah, really? Lucky!...Wait."

"What did you wanna talk about, Firey?" I asked.

He shrugged, "I dunno. I just feel like I know everyone here better than you two. Plus, you two seem cool! You're an idol and...figure skater, right?"

"Mhm!"

"That's pretty cool!" He sighed, "I'm just lucky. That's all."

"That's kinda ironic..." Icy muttered, "Ending up in here, with a talent like that..."

He chuckled, "Yeah, it really is."

We continued to eat and chat about whatever came to mind, until we all finished. I headed back to my own room. "I've got some time to kill, and anything beats sitting around here." With that, I left the dorm room and shut the door behind me.

Immediately, I noticed Golfball leaning on the door of her dorm, holding a book. "Whatcha doin, GB?" I asked curiously. She looked up, and almost immediately looked back down.

"Square roots problems." She replied flatly, "I just got bored."

"Oh, that's cool! I...don't actually know how to solve for square root."

"Really?"

"Yeah, but—"

"Well, come over here, then!" She suddenly grinned excitedly. "I'm gonna teach you!"

"A-Are you...sure?" I questioned, "I-I don't wanna frustrate you..."

"Please, I could teach SB, I can teach you!"

I contemplated my options for a moment, "Well, I'm not necessarily a fan of math, but...I've never seen GB this happy before." I nodded, and smiled at her, "Alright, let's do it!"

I spent some time learning math with Golfball.

While I was solving some of the problems in her book, I decided to strike up some conversation. "So, GB, what was your life like? Before...y'know."

She looked at me for a moment, surprised. "You...actually wanna know about me?"

"Yeah! Why wouldn't I?"

She hesitated for a moment, before answering, "It's just...no one except TB's ever actually wanted to know about...just me. People back in school were always asking for answers, or tutoring, but that was all I was to them. A robot made to help them. They never cared about me unless there was something I could give them."

I stared at her, taking in her every word. Finally, I muttered, "That's terrible...I'm so sorry..."

"It's okay. I'm used to it by now."

"But that's not right! No one deserves to be...used like that!"

She didn't answer, so I continued, "How did you and TB meet, anyways?"

"We go to the same high school. Before we got sent here, anyways." She smiled slightly, having moved on from the conversation before, "I thought he was crazy, associating himself with someone like me. But...he didn't care. He was always by my side, helping me when I rarely couldn't do things myself."

I smiled again at her, "You two sound close."

"We are. It's funny, really...We don't match, like, at all. But we still get along."

"Well, opposites do attract."

"Yeah, that's what I would say. But, that's more used for couples, and TB and I don't like each other in that way."

My smile faded. "Oh. She hasn't realized yet." I thought to myself. I was about to speak up, but she spoke again.

"Hey, Leafy..." She started, "Why'd you wanna know about me, anyway?"

I was about to say something, but stopped. I wanted to get this right. "Well, why wouldn't I? You seem so...You're just you, GB! You're smart, a good leader, strong...What isn't something I want to know about you? Of course, you don't have to tell me anything you're uncomfortable with saying, but I wanna know everything you wanna tell me!"

She stared in shock for a moment, before chuckling quietly. "You sound just like TB, y'know?"

I chuckled, too, "I guess I do."

More silence. I could tell she wanted to say something, but I didn't push her. I didn't want her to feel uncomfortable.

"Leafy?" She suddenly spoke up, a light, embarrassed blush on her face. "Will you be my friend?"

I was shocked by her words. Not because of the question itself, but that she even had to ask. Still, I smiled gently. "Of course I will, GB."

"Really?"

"Yes!"

"...Thanks."

"No need to thank me! There wasn't even a need to ask. In all honestly, I already considered you a friend."

"Did you?"

"Mhm!"

"...Wow..."

We continued to sit in silence as I finished a page of her math book. Usually I didn't like silence, but even through it I couldn't tell she was happy, even if she was trying to conceal it. Even if she couldn't put it into words, I was still just glad I could make her happy. Once I was done, I gave the book back to her, and we said our goodbyes as I went back to my dorm.

Golfball and I grew closer today!
