Chapter One: The Point of Freedom-Part Three: Opinions

"I still have a bit of time left before night." I thought out loud, looking up at the clock. Icy, who happed to be walking down the hallway, turned to me.

"Oh, hey, Leafy!" She waved to me with a little smile, "Do you wanna hang out? Y'know, since we're both not doing anything."

I nodded almost instantly. She seemed a bit shocked by my excitement, but she nodded back nonetheless. "Alright. Let's chat for a bit! We only have about an hour before nighttime, anyways."

I spent some time talking with Icy.

————————————————————————————

While we were chatting, a random thought came to mind. "Hey, Icy?" I asked, "What do you think of the people here? You just seemed...pretty annoyed at Flower the first time we met her. And you don't really talk to anyone else except me and Firey."

Icy swayed back and forth, contemplating my question. Finally, she answered, "Well, I like you and Firey. Oh, and GB's cool. She seems a little anti-social, and maybe bossy, but she's nice."

I nodded. "I really like Pin, too." She continued, "She's really sweet, and I think her talent's cool, since I really can't bake or cook like, at all. And her leadership skills are impressive. Her only downside is that she can be bossy sometimes, I guess. TB's nice too, even if he's a tiny bit of a doormat. Coiny's funny, and I like Needle's speed. Teardrop's energy is a bit exhausting, but fun.

Rocky's cute. In a kid way, obviously, not a weird one. Spongy...Eh, I don't really know him. Same with Eraser, SB, and Pen. And Bubble. Woody keeps running away from me, but to be fair he does that with everyone. Match is really, really annoying. So is Pencil, even though she isn't as bad. And Flower?" She scoffed. "Don't even get me started on her. Blocky annoys the crap out of me, too, even though he doesn't really talk much to me."

Once she was done, I nodded, and smiled, slightly amused. "You don't seem to like a lot of us." I pointed out. She shrugged.

"I'm not really like you and Pin. I can't actually 'like' someone if I don't know them well, or if they messed with me first." She explained flatly.

"Fair enough."

Ding-dong-bing-bong!

"Ahem! Everyone, please make your way to the gym for a school announcement at this time!"

Icy and I both stopped and looked at the TV. "Huh?" I cocked my head to the side, "Why not the nighttime announcement?"

"Dunno." She shrugged, and stood up, "Might as well go see what it wants, though." I nodded, and stood up after her. We walked to the gym in complete, confused silence.

When we got to the gym, everyone else was already standing there, equally as confused. "What's going on?" Pen thought out loud.

"Dunno." Blocky shrugged, " Maybe Mononounncer—"

"WHY ARE YOU ALL STILL ALIVE."

Blocky instantly stopped talking and whirled around to face the podium. We, of course, did the same. For a moment, there was nothing, just that podium on the stage...

Then, it jumped out from behind it.

"Why. Are. You. All. Still. ALIVE!" It demanded. Bubble yelped, but no one else made a sound.

Finally, I spoke. "Cause we said we wouldn't kill anyone!"

"But why NOT!?" It asked, "You have the weapons, you have the setting, you have the people, you have the—!" Suddenly, it froze, as if it realized something. It giggled lowly, "I get it...you still need more of a motive."

"A motive...?" Rocky softly asked, "What's that...?"

"A motive is the reason someone does something, Rocky." Tennis Ball explained, kneeling down to his level. He glared at Mononounncer, "Although, I'm not sure what it had to do with this killing game."

"I'll tell you, TB!" It suddenly disappeared for a moment, then came back seconds later.

"Here's the deal," It explained, "Every day there isn't a murder, now, the temperature will increase, or decrease, by a certain amount! So, either you can kill someone, or you all can slowly overheat/freeze to death! How's that for a motive!"

We all just stood there in a shocked, horrified daze. It was either...we killed someone...or it killed all of us painfully...? How could we...How...

"Anyways, your time starts tomorrow. Byee!" It laughed one more time, before disappearing. Even so, we just...stared at where it previously stood, our hearts beating identically, but so differently, at the same time...I could think of only one thing now.

Someone was going to die.

That...No. It wouldn't happen.

I won't let them turn on each other.

But...

"What are we gonna do...?" Teardrop finally muttered, hands clasped firmly over her mouth. Needle quickly reached for her hand, and took it gently.

"I don't know..." Pin muttered, fearfully thinking.

Golfball was doing the same, though she was keeping her composure noticeably better. "Well...I say there's no use worrying about it, now. We should just...try to sleep."

Suddenly, almost on cue...

Ding-dong-bing-bong!

"Mm, ahem, this is a school announcement. It is now 10 p.m. As such, it is officially nighttime. Soon the doors to the dining hall will be locked, and entry at that point is strictly prohibited. Okay then...sweet dreams, everyone! Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite..."

Click.

"...Well...I guess that settles it." Pin said, turning away, "Goodnight, everyone." She left without another word. I know that she wasn't usually one for big exits, but hearing so few words from her just felt...wrong. Coiny noticed it, too, as he and Needle shared a worried glance before following after her.

After that, we all followed quickly. Wordlessly. I went to my own room, and shut the door behind me. I laid down in my bed and curled up, trying to force what happened today out of my head.

Kill someone...or die...?

What was going to happen...?

Will someone get hurt...?

Will I get hurt...?

At that last thought, I got out of bed, and made sure my door was locked extra tight. After ensuring no one could get in, I laid back down. I'm not sure what the point was, as I knew that I wasn't going to sleep anytime soon.

And, I didn't. I laid there, silently staring at the ceiling above.

This wouldn't end well.

No matter if one person died, or all of us.

Motive babyyyyyy

Basically, in case you wanna hear it from me, every day that goes by where no one dies, the temperature will increase/decrease by a certain amount of time.
