Third Person's POV:
Meanwhile, back in the Radisson hotel, Kai spoke to someone on the phone in a warm, soft tone. As he talked, his face lit up with happiness, a small smile forming on his lips. However, as the call ended, his expression turned cold once again just as Jack entered the room, bowing deeply.
"Sir, the meeting is in one hour at Xavier's office," Jack informed, looking at Kai.
Even for someone like Jack, who had worked with Kai for years, it was the first time he had heard his boss speak with such sweetness and warmth. It was as if an entirely different personality had emerged—one that no one, not even Jack himself, had ever witnessed.
Nodding, Kai scrolled through his phone and replied in a cold, commanding tone, "Okay."
Leaving Kai alone, Jack nodded and made his way out, barking orders to his men to check all the arrangements and security measures one last time.
Kai's POV:
I leaned against the plush chair in my hotel room, the warmth of the call still lingering in my mind. The sound of the other person's laughter had brought a genuine smile to my lips, a rarity in my otherwise guarded life. For a fleeting moment, I felt the weight of my responsibilities lift, replaced by a warmth I hadn't experienced in a long time.
But as the call ended, reality crashed back in. I ran a hand through my hair, the smile fading as I thought of the upcoming meeting with Xavier. There was no room for distractions or vulnerability; I needed to stay focused on the task at hand.
When Jack entered, bowing deeply, I shifted my demeanor. "Sir, the meeting is in one hour at Xavier's office," he informed me, his tone formal. I noted the surprise in Jack's eyes—I had seen it all before, the confusion that came with glimpsing a softer side of me.
"Okay," I replied, letting my voice drop to its usual coldness. I couldn't afford to let anyone see how I felt, not even Jack.
As Jack exited, barking orders to his men, I felt the familiar rush of adrenaline. The alliance with Xavier was crucial, especially after everything that had happened. I needed to remain sharp, calculating. The Italians were a threat, and they had crossed a line I would not allow to go unpunished.
With a deep breath, I pushed aside the lingering warmth from the call and focused on the cold, hard reality ahead.
As I made my way down the hotel stairs toward the exit, I casually ran my fingers through my hair. The driver bowed slightly, opening the door for me with an air of deference.
Settling into the backseat, my mind drifted into a sea of strategies, plotting how Xavier and I could form an alliance against the Italians. I leaned back, surrendering to my thoughts, until the driver's voice pulled me back to reality. "We've arrived, sir."
Nodding, I stepped out of the car, flanked by a small group of my men, all clad in black suits with stern expressions. Jack stood beside me, ready for anything.
As we entered, a tall, well-built young man approached us. "Greetings, Mr. Kai Parker. This is Viktor Petrov, second-in-command of Mr. Xavier Volkov. The boss is waiting for you in his office," he said, his deep Russian accent resonating in the air.
I nodded, and we followed him down the corridor. Suddenly, he paused and turned to face me. "Mr. Parker, this is a safe place. We have no intentions of forming a rivalry with the Americans. I kindly ask if you could leave your men outside the office. The boss prefers to meet alone."
After a moment's hesitation, I agreed, signaling my men to remain behind as I pushed open the door to Xavier's office.
Inside, I found a tall, striking man in a sharp blue suit pacing the room. He turned to me, his cold smile revealing nothing. "I'm Xavier Volkov, capo of the Volkov Family."
I shook his hand, my grip firm and cool. "And I'm Kai Parker."
Without wasting time on pleasantries, Xavier got straight to the point. I appreciated that; everyone should understand the value of time.
Hours slipped by as we delved into the intricacies of our potential alliance. At last, we reached a mutual understanding. I extended my hand with a cold smile. "To the new alliance."
"To the new alliance," he replied, shaking my hand firmly.
I turned to leave, opening the door as my men followed me out. Xavier's gaze lingered on me, unyielding, until I vanished from his sight.
Little does he know I got my own ulterior motives to join an alliance with him.
