Xavier's POV:

I was pacing in my office, waiting for Kai, when the atmosphere shifted the moment he strode in. It was charged, electric, a mix of authority and danger that set my instincts on high alert. Dressed in a perfectly tailored charcoal suit, he looked every bit the part of an American mafia capo. His slicked-back dark hair and piercing blue eyes immediately captured my attention, a clear signal that this was not a man to be underestimated.

As he moved with an ease that bordered on arrogance, I couldn't shake the feeling that he was sizing me up with every step. When he leaned against my desk, casually toying with a cigar, it sent a shiver down my spine. This wasn't just a social call; Kai had a reputation for being ruthless and calculating, and I knew he was here to make a point.

I locked eyes with him, steeling myself against the intensity of those icy blue depths. The underlying tension in the room was palpable—an unspoken threat hung between us, heavy and dangerous. Kai's smirk blended confidence with mischief, suggesting he held more cards than he was revealing.

I felt the urge to assert my dominance, but I knew better. This was a delicate dance; one wrong move could send everything spiraling out of control. I took a deep breath, reminding myself of the stakes. Kai was no ordinary player; he was a wildcard, and I needed to navigate this meeting with caution.

"Xavier Volkov, Capo of the Volkov Family," I said, extending my hand toward him, trying to mask my tension with a cool demeanor. But inside, I was acutely aware that with Kai in the room, everything was at risk.

As the meeting dragged on for hours, I saw many sides of this man—all of them equally dominating. After what felt like an eternity of discussion, we finally reached a mutual agreement and formed an alliance against those Italian jerks.

But something feels off. It all seemed too easy. He agreed to the terms so quickly, and I can't help but wonder if he has some ulterior motives.

As I watched him leave my office, flanked by his men, I took a deep breath of relief and sank into my chair, gazing out through the large French glass doors that separated my office from the balcony.

The sun was setting, casting an orange glow over the city.

I should head to the estates now and see what my princess is up to.

When I arrived at the mansion, I found Lucian sitting on the couch, engrossed in something on his phone. He glanced up at me as I entered, rising and giving a slight bow.

"Boss, how was the meeting?" he asked in his usual cold, professional tone.

This guy. I wish he talked to me like he does with Meera. Does he think I haven't noticed his shift in behavior around her? But he knows better than to double-cross me.

"It went fine. We sealed the deal with Kai Parker," I replied, keeping my tone equally cold as I headed upstairs toward Meera's room.

"Boss, she's asleep," Lucian whispered, careful not to make a sound that could disturb her.

I nodded and quietly made my way to her room. Opening the door softly, I stood there for a moment, just watching her sleep, before heading to my own room to freshen up.

Something feels off, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Shifting my strange thoughts aside, I took a shower to freshen up before making my way to my study. I asked the maid to bring me dinner there.

As I poured a glass of scotch for myself, the maid quietly entered with a tray. She bowed slightly, placing the food in front of me before leaving the room.

Sipping my scotch, I focused on my meal, but my thoughts kept drifting back to Meera and her innocent, sleeping face.

She really is so cute.
