Finally, their engagement day arrived. Shivansh had been waiting for this day for an eternity. His excitement and happiness for the day are beyond words. His heart was filled with such immense happiness that it was beyond explanation in words alone. He was getting ready in his room wearing a cream kurta with golden embroidery around the edges and a matching coat on top, which amplified his allure.
The engagement muhurat was making him impatient, even though he wanted to head to the location the very next moment. He pulled his favourite watch out of the drawer and put it on. Just as he was about to put on the brooch his mother had asked him to wear over her kurta, he heard a knock on the door. He sighed, thinking it was his sibling who had been making fun of his engagement all morning, making him blush and feel annoyed all at once. He halted towards the door, opening it quickly, revealing his parents standing at the door with their million-dollar smile. He smiled seeing them and pulled them inside.
"You look so handsome, my boy." His father commented, making him grin and hug him, who patted his back in return.
Releasing himself from the hug, he faced his mother. Tears were welling up in her eyes, expressing her admiration. The boy who had been a baby to her was now all grown up. Her tears were the reason for her happiness; her baby boy was about to embrace a new life with the love of his life. She could still remember the moment the small Shivansh was in her arms, pleading for her attention, calling her maa for the first time, approaching her, and all this felt like yesterday. With time, that little Shivansh of hers developed into a man who valued his family and brought them joy at every turn.
"What happened, maa, why these tears?" She heard her son's comforting voice as he patted her face and wiped away the tears that streamed down her cheeks, and her thoughts stopped.
She held his hand, planting a small kiss. She passed a small smile towards him, cupping his face.
"It was just yesterday when you were a small baby, and see, my grown-up baby boy is getting engaged." She said, tapping on his cheeks, making him smile at her. He kissed her hand and pulled her into his embrace, kissing her hair.
"I am still that Shivansh for you, mom," he said, breaking the hug and wiping her tears. "Ok, now stop crying even if its our happiness and make me wear this brooch," he said.
"See, your grown-up baby boy doesn't even know how to wear a brooch," his father teased, making her chuckle.
"The same way you don't know how to wear your tie, papa. It's a gene problem," he replied, smiling smugly towards his father, who looked here and there feeling shy, making Shivansh and his mom chuckle. She smiled, making him wear his brooch, and hugged him.
"Oooooohoooooo," a loud squill interrupted their conversation as Dhruv loudly hooted as he saw his best friend dressed up. He came dancing into the room, followed by Aashika, Prayansh, and a bunch of dhol players.
While the others followed suit, he began to dance wildly around his best friend. Shivansh smile grew tenfold seeing his family enjoying their hearts out. He admired his loved ones, capturing their smile and joy in his heart.
After almost half an hour of dancing, they all set on the bed while Dhruv hugged Shivansh.
"For the first time in my life, you are looking beautiful to me." Dhruv stated, making shivansh grin at his statement
"It's not beautiful; its handsome, you stupid." Shivanshh grinned, slightly hitting Dhruv's head.
"Well, whatever..you could have at least said thank you, so unappreciative," Dhruv said, rolling his eyes and making Shivansh glare at him. "But be quick; we have to leave or else we will be late," Dhruv stated while everyone nodded quickly, heading downstairs.
On the other side, Aliyah was getting ready in her room with her little fur baby laying just beside her leg, licking his small paws. He glanced at her time to time, not able to capture enough of his mom's beautiful face and attire. Aliyah's eyes met him, making him divert his eyes in another direction, making Aliyah's giggle at him. He covered his eyes with his paws, feeling sighs after being caught, making Aliyah laugh out loud. Her laugh echoed around the room, filling the room with some positiveness she had wanted since morning.
No one was there to get her ready, not even a makeup artist. She wanted her look to be simple and natural. She got ready in her off-peach lehenga, which had a simple elegant necklace around her neck and a small earring hanging on her ears, while her hand were clad with a bunch of golden and silver-paired bangles. Her hands were covered with heena with a small "S" hidden somewhere in it.
She glanced around her room to find her dupatta, quickly wrapping it around her attire to complete her look. She wrapped it quite nicely in the front but was facing an issue to pin it at the back. Her struggles were noticed by Fluffy, who was looking confused at what his mom was trying to do and Barked, trying to ask what was bothering her. Aliyah looked at him and smiled, making him sigh, and lay beside her, watching her struggle.
"It's stuck, Fluffy; now I need help." Aliyah sighed irritatingly while fluffy stood up, rubbing his face in her legs, trying to comfort and calm his favourite human down.
Her moment with fluffy broke as soon the room of the door opened. Her mother was standing there when she turned to face the door. After a long wait of two years since they had shared anything, she grinned, thinking that she would finally talk to her and make her feel at home. But the scene seems to be different in reality.
"Come down fast; they are here." She said and went downstairs without even glancing at her daughter, even on her special day.
At that moment, all of Aliyah's positivity and happiness vanished as she watched her mother treat her as if she never existed. Her own home felt like a cage to her. Her hand trembled, fearing the worst; tears welled up in her eyes, and a heavy feeling clogged her throat. Despite not speaking to each other for years, she never felt that unimportant to anyone. Her heart broke as she sat back on her bed, hugging her knees tight. Tear drops were threatening to come out and flow freely but her heart was not ready to look vulnerable at her special day, that too infront of so many people. She rubbed over her chest to calm her heart down when she felt a low lick on her hand. Glancing down, she saw Fluffy next to her, staring at her with worried eyes. She hugged him tightly and saw him next to her, but her smile vanished in the loneliness.
