At this point I was running just to try to make it on time. The Dingo was a Greaser stop that was a popular restaurant to everyone though. All the greasers hang out in the parking lot smoking, drinking, and getting in fights with travelers until the fuzz showed up. I busted through the door and checked in. Only then did I realized I left my shirt at my house, so I had to used an extra that was way to big for me. I walked into the bathroom to fix my shirt. I rolled up the sleeves and took my ponytail and tie the back of the shirt up. I looked in the mirror at my hair that was abnormally frizzy at the time. I took the hidden hair grease from behind the toilet and greased up my light brown hair. I also fixed my smeared make-up, but I didn’t have to repair it that much since I don’t usually wear a lot of make-up except for dates or rumbles. Like I said before, I’m not like normal greaser girls. Besides the cursing, I don’t wear tons of make-up or dress in short skirts and low cut tops, except again in rumbles. That was the only time where you are proud to be a greaser.
As I walked out of the bathroom in my skinny jeans and black converse, I threw my black sweatshirt on the chair in the back while adjusting my oversized Dingo shirt.
“What can I get you?” I asked two men that looked to be on their lunch break as I took out my notepad.
“Two Cheeseburgers. I’ve heard you guys have the best.” The first guy said. He looked to be in his late 30s.
“Anything else?”
“Oh and two cokes please.” The second man requested.
I ripped the order out of my notepad and put it out for the chef to see. As I was popping my bubblegum, I filled two cups to the rim with coke and gave the men their order. It wasn’t that busy; we had the normal crowd in the morning, but things picked up after lunch.
“I’ll take a coke babe.” A rough voice demanded.
“Call me babe again and I’ll punch you,” I threaten, but only to find that it was none other than Dallas Winston. “Dally, sorry man. How’s it going?”
“Not too good. Sylvia was two timing me while I was in the slammer.” He said as I gave him his coke.
“Aw sorry man, I never liked her anyway.” I tried to play it cool to make him feel better, but Dally doesn’t care anyway. He isn’t exactly the lovey dovey type.
As an hour went by, I was anticipating Sodapop’s arrival. Dally took his last sip of his coke and left a quarter on the counter and left. Sighing at the mess a table left that I would have to clean. I took my towel and started wiping down the table. A pair of hands wrapped around my mouth.
“Gimme all your money!” a harsh voice demanded.
I panicked and spit in the guy’s hands.
“Ew, gross!” The reassuring voice of Sodapop chimed.
“Serves you right! That’s what you get for trying to freak me out,” I told him, “I could’ve been shot!” I joked making dramatic hand gestures.
“Yeah, call me a killer.” He joked back at me.
“Ready to go?” I asked.
“I was born ready.” He simply replied. At that, I took off my apron and threw it behind the counter and walked out with Soda as he threw his arm over my shoulder. Normally, I wouldn’t mind if he put his arm over my shoulder, but this was different because I felt like he was starting to have feelings about us.
Sodapop’s POV
Colly and I have always been best friends and to been honest; I’ve thought she was cute since I met her. I dig that she can fight and doesn’t wear that much make-up. It’s so easy to talk to her, but why do I feel different towards her now?
“What type of movie do you think they’re gonna show?”
“Probably some beach movie like they always do. They’re so cheesy, but it’s more fun when your there.” Colly said.
“And why is that?” I asked wondering if she’ll admit she likes me. Steve told me that it looks like she’s into me. Why do I all of a sudden like her?
“Well, we joke all the time and you get me. Plus, you’re my best friend.” She answered.
What does she mean by ‘you get me’? I love hanging out with her, but now I’m questioning my decision. I’d just hate to ruin things.
Colly’s POV
Soda went under the ripped fence first and I slid after him and took his hand. As we made our way to the chairs, we saw a group of Socs with their girlfriends making out in the back of their red mustang. Soda and I imitated them as he lifted me up and made fake kissing sounds. We laughed harder and harder until we got to the seats. I jumped over the railing and made my way to the back with Soda following close behind. We sat down and I put my feet on top of the chair in front of me and lit a cigarette. I took a long drag and looked around for our next couple. Soda nudged me with his elbow and nodded to our right. I turned to Sodapop and put our foreheads together and made whale noises (don’t ask me why, but it sounded appropriate for the situation). We laughed together as the couple turned and flicked us off.
“That was classic. Nice twist with the whale noise.” Soda said between chuckles.
“Your turn Romeo.” I smiled.
As Soda scanned the section for his next victim he acted quick on his feet. He stuck his hand out and stood up nodding over to the couple in the corner holding each other close and sucking face while slow dancing for who knows what reason. I took his hand a he pulled me close. He then took my hand into waltzing position and danced like a crazy person having seizures. Even with his awful dancing, I seemed to swoon over him. Evie, who is Steve’s girlfriend, told me that it’s obvious Soda likes me. We sat back down and continued to giggle.
“So what’s your big news?” I asked.
He seemed unsure if he wanted to say anything, but after a while, he spoke up, “I found someone,” my heart sank a little, “her name’s Sandy.” He said.
“That’s great… Sandy Jones?” I asked.
“Yeah, she stopped by the DX for a month trying to flirt with me and I really like her.” He answers still unsure.
“Oh yeah, she’s a greaser girl. I have a couple classes with her.” I wasn’t exactly a A+ student, but still showed up for school just to be mark ‘present’ then sneak out after lunch with Two-Bit or Steve. I don’t really know anybody in my classes except for my gang or the Shepard or Brumley boys gang.
“Yeah, you guys should hang out sometime.” He proposed.
“Maybe, if I ever get a chance.” I said aloud then, with a whisper uttered, “that’s likely” to myself. Oh, how I crack myself up with my own sarcasm. With that we left the movies and headed home. I guess I’d make an attempt to stay at my house.
