Ava
Everything I had envisioned faded as I entered this place. Memories of Jon and the doctor flooded back; I once believed I was a danger to those around me, but this man posed the true threat.
"Buongiorno, tesoro," he greeted.
"What do you want?" I shot back.
"You didn't return my greeting."
"I asked, 'What do you want?'" I raised my voice in frustration.
In an instant, he grasped my face, his grip firm. "Never raise your voice at me, sweetheart."
"I'm sorry," I replied, wincing at his touch.
"Here's your food. Eat."
"What a gentleman," a voice in my mind mocked.
"Thank you, but I'm not hungry," I replied.
"Don't be a bad girl, Ava."
"I'm not hungry."
"Then let's have some fun," he said with a chuckle.
"What...?"
"Here are the rules: 1. You'll run and hide from me.
2. I'll find you.
3. I'll end you."
"No!" I screamed.
"I'll count down, Ava," he replied calmly.
"Please, Aaron."
"Ten."
"Aaron, we can talk about this."
"Nine."
"Please!"
"Eight."
"Seven."
"Six."
"Five. You'd better run, Ava, or it'll be too easy for me," he warned, his gaze locked on mine.
"Four."
I bolted, not daring to look back. I reached for the door, but a hand caught my arm. I wriggled free, flinging the door open and sprinting into the unknown.
