"Ava!!!!!!" Jesse shouted again, pulling me from my thoughts.
"Yes?"
"I said, 'Are you going on a date with Aaron Addison?'"
"Well, yes."
"When did this happen?"
I recounted everything, from our collision on the street to the dinner at the restaurant.
"Ava, I am so happy for you!"
"Don't be," I replied. "I'm just doing this to find out how he knows everything about me."
"Of course, I should be happy!"
"Why?"
"Because he is Aaron Addison, the hottest person you will ever meet! And he's so gentle, by the way."
"How do you know him?"
"Ava, you're the only person who doesn't know Aaron, the CEO of Percepta Security!"
"Oh, so he's well known."
"Yes, he is!"
"Okay, I just—"
"Sorry, Ava, but I have to go now. I have work. I'll call you later, okay?"
"Okay."
"Love you, babe."
"Love you more," I replied, smiling despite myself.
Jesse was my best friend; we had been inseparable since high school and graduated together.
After our call, I waited for any news from Aaron, but the phone stayed silent. Eventually, fatigue overtook me, and I drifted off to sleep, uncertainty swirling in my mind.
