Emilio and Lucien's men stood by, their expressions a mix of disdain and curiosity as they observed James tied to the chair, looking lost and broken. His disheveled hair fell over his face, and his clothes were wrinkled and stained from the scuffle earlier.
“Why are you so obsessed with Ella?” Emilio asked, his voice low but firm, cutting through the tense silence that filled the dimly lit room. The flickering light overhead cast ominous shadows on the walls.
James’s gaze flickered to Emilio, a mixture of defiance and vulnerability in his eyes. He swallowed hard, hesitating before answering. “I’ve loved her since high school,” he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper. “She was always the one—the only one who ever mattered to me.”
Emilio crossed his arms, unimpressed. “Love? This isn’t love, James. This is obsession. You don’t know what love is if you think stalking her and trying to control her is okay.”
James's expression faltered, a hint of desperation creeping in. “You don’t understand! I thought if I could just get her alone, she would see how much I care. I just wanted to show her that we belong together.”
Lucien stepped forward, his presence commanding and intimidating. “You think terrorizing her and hiding her away is how you show care? You’ve crossed a line, James. She deserves better than this twisted idea of love you’ve created in your mind.”
“I didn’t mean to hurt her!” James protested, his voice rising with emotion. “I just wanted to protect her from people like you! You don’t know what I’d do for her. I’d do anything.”
“Anything?” Emilio scoffed, shaking his head. “You think you’re a hero in some twisted fairytale? Ella has people who truly care for her, who would do anything to keep her safe without putting her in danger. You’ve only brought her fear.”
James looked down, shame washing over him as the reality of his actions began to sink in. “I... I just thought if I could have her, everything would be perfect,” he admitted, his voice cracking. “But I see now that I messed up. I just wanted to be with her.”
Lucien exchanged a glance with Emilio, both men silently communicating their shared disbelief at James’s warped understanding of love.
“Ella is not a prize to be won or controlled,” Lucien said, his tone steady. “She is a person with her own will and her own choices. You need to understand that your actions have consequences.”
“Consequences,” James repeated, his voice barely above a whisper as the weight of those words hung heavy in the air. “I didn’t think… I didn’t realize…”
Lucien stepped closer, his eyes cold and unwavering. “You need to think long and hard about what you’ve done, and how you’re going to make it right—if you even can.”
As James sat there, bound and defeated, he realized that the fantasy he had built around Ella was crumbling, and he was left with the bitter truth of his obsession.
“I’ll leave her alone. I’ll leave the country. I don’t want to be reminded of her,” James surrendered, his voice laced with defeat. He hung his head, the fight draining from him as the reality of his obsession settled like a heavy weight on his shoulders.
Lucien glanced at Emilio, exchanging a look that communicated a mixture of skepticism and caution. “You think saying that now will erase everything?” Lucien challenged, his voice low and steady. “You’ve put her through hell, and you expect us to believe you’ll just walk away without consequences?”
Emilio stepped forward, arms still crossed over his chest. “You need to understand, James. This isn’t just about you anymore. Ella is a part of our lives, and you’ve endangered her. Trust isn’t something you can just take back.”
James looked up, desperation flickering in his eyes. “I know I messed up. I get it. But I swear I’ll leave her alone. I’ll go far away. Just let me go.”
“Let you go?” Lucien raised an eyebrow, skepticism etched on his face. “You think you can just disappear after everything you’ve done? You’ve made this personal, James. You’ve crossed a line, and that can’t be overlooked.”
James’s breath quickened, a spark of panic igniting within him. “What do you want from me? What will it take for you to let me go?”
“We want to make sure you’re not a threat to her anymore,” Emilio replied, his tone steady. “This isn’t just about your feelings; it’s about Ella’s safety.”
Lucien’s gaze hardened as he studied James’s expression, searching for any sign of sincerity. “You say you’ll leave her alone, but how can we trust you? You’ve lied to yourself and to her for so long.”
James swallowed hard, a flicker of realization washing over him. “I…I’ll do anything. Just give me a chance to make it right.”
“You want to make it right?” Lucien pressed, stepping closer to James, his presence imposing. “Then you’ll leave. No forwarding address. No contact. You disappear, and we won’t come after you. But if you ever show up again…well, let’s just say I can’t guarantee your safety.”
Emilio nodded in agreement, his expression serious. “You’ll need to erase every trace of your obsession. Cut ties with everyone who knows you. If we find out you’re still in the same city as Ella, you won’t like what happens next.”
James nodded slowly, fear creeping into his features. “I understand. I won’t come back. I promise.”
Lucien’s piercing gaze held James’s as he contemplated the man’s sincerity. “We’ll be watching, and if you think you can hide from us, think again. This is your last chance. Make it count.”
With that, Lucien motioned for his men to release James from the chair. They untied him, but the threat lingered heavily in the air as James stood up, trembling slightly. He knew he was free for now, but the weight of Lucien’s warning hung over him like a dark cloud.
As James stumbled out of the room, Emilio and Lucien exchanged wary glances. They understood that this wouldn’t be the end of the story; it was merely a new chapter—one they would watch closely. Ella’s safety was paramount, and they would do whatever it took to keep her out of harm’s way.
