As they settled back at Ella’s place, Blake took control of the remote, scrolling through movie options. “How about we watch something exciting?” he asked with a grin. “Action, romance, and maybe a bit of Mafia drama?”
Ella, sitting comfortably on the couch with a bowl of snacks, raised an eyebrow. “You’re picking a Mafia movie? That’s a little… on the nose, don’t you think?”
Blake laughed. “Come on, it’s a classic combo—guns, drama, and romance. What’s not to love?” He selected the movie before she could protest, and the opening credits started to roll.
Just as the first intense Mafia scene came up on screen, where the lead Mafia boss sweeps a woman off her feet in a heated moment of passion, Ella felt herself tense up slightly. She absentmindedly reached for a peanut and popped it into her mouth, her thoughts drifting to Lucien.
Suddenly, the dramatic kiss on screen caught her off guard, and Ella gasped, choking on the peanut. She coughed and sputtered, trying to clear her throat as her eyes widened in shock.
Blake immediately jumped up, half-laughing but concerned. “Whoa! Ella, are you okay? Don’t die on me over some popcorn romance!”
Ella finally managed to clear her throat, still coughing but laughing through the embarrassment. “I’m fine! I just—ugh, wasn’t expecting that scene!” She took a sip of water, still giggling, her face flushed.
Blake shook his head, smirking as he sat back down. “You really are something else, Ella. You want me to switch the movie?”
“No, no,” she said quickly, waving her hand. “It’s fine. Just… maybe less intense scenes while I’m eating?”
Blake chuckled, pressing play again. “Got it. I’ll give you a warning before any more steamy Mafia action.”
As the movie played on, Ella couldn’t help but steal glances at the screen, thinking of how closely the movie mirrored some of the complications in her own life. Blake, of course, remained oblivious, munching away at his snacks and enjoying the action scenes, completely unaware of the whirlwind of emotions swirling inside her.
Blake leaned forward, eyes glued to the screen as the Mafia boss made another bold move, his charisma practically oozing off the TV. “Damn, these Mafia men are so fine,” Blake whispered, clearly mesmerized by the lead actor's intense stare and perfectly tailored suit.
Ella, mid-sip of water, nearly spat it out as she choked in surprise, coughing and sputtering once again. She quickly set her glass down, her face turning red from both the water and the unexpected comment. “Blake!” she gasped, still catching her breath. “You can’t just say stuff like that!”
Blake raised his hands in mock innocence, a teasing grin spreading across his face. “What? I’m just appreciating some fine craftsmanship.” He winked playfully. “If Mafia guys really looked like that, I wouldn’t mind being part of the action.”
Ella shook her head, laughing despite herself. “You’re too much, Blake.”
He shrugged, leaning back into the couch with a satisfied smirk. “Just calling it as I see it. But seriously, you okay? That’s the second time you’ve almost choked tonight.”
“I’m fine,” Ella said, still laughing. “But maybe we need a safer movie choice if you’re going to keep making comments like that.”
Blake grinned. “Nah, this is way more fun.”
As another chaotic and steamy scene exploded onto the screen, Ella was caught off guard once more, this time choking on the piece of popcorn she was eating. She coughed, her eyes watering as she tried to regain her composure. Blake, with a smirk on his face, immediately paused the movie and turned to her, arms crossed in mock seriousness.
