Chapter 6: The Hidden Root Of A Tree

"Good morning citizens of Koseignhigh," Loira Dixon's voice echoed through the newsroom, her tone dark and serious. "A horrifying incident occurred last night. A doctor at Maden Hospital was killed by an unknown suspect. The doctor has been identified as Doctor Kyu. Inside a restroom, a suspicious door was discovered. Doctor Kyu was killed inside it. The police found something at the crime scene with the words 'I AM A CRIMINAL... I KILL THOSE PATIENTS TO EXPERIMENT ON THEM... I WANT TO BE A GOD' written on the wall in blood. The police also found a tape recorder at the scene. This is what was recorded on it."

The camera zoomed in on Loira’s face as her voice shifted to the chilling recording. "I am Doctor Kyu. I want to become a god. People will be astonished when they see the experiment I am working on. I experiment on patients who are about to die. I take these patients and bring them to this basement to experiment on them. With this experiment, the world will bow before me. I will create many wars. I will destroy the world until everyone kneels before me. My experiment can destroy a city. With its new brain and blood, it will become a predator. It can kill a million people. My reign over the world is near."

Loira’s expression tightened, her gaze hard as she continued. "And that was the recording found at the crime scene. But who could have killed Doctor Kyu? How did they know about his twisted plans? One thing is certain though... we were saved by that person. This is Loira Dixon from Infinity News, keeping watch over every event in our city."

"AND CUT!!!" the director shouted.

"Nice job, Loira," Director Fred praised her, his smile genuine.

"Thank you, sir," Loira replied with a small nod, but there was an undeniable glint of ambition in her eyes. "Uh, sir, can I ask for a favor?"

Fred raised an eyebrow. "Sure, what is it?"

Loira didn’t hesitate. "Can I cover this case? I'm sure this will be a hit with our viewers. We could title it 'The Psychopath Hunter.’"

Fred seemed to think for a moment, then nodded. "That’s possible. It’s a good idea. From now on, you’ll be following this case. If you produce some good reports, I’ll give you your own segment and a promotion."

"Thank you, sir," Loira’s voice softened, her gratitude clear.

"Ma’am Loira, what should we do next?" her assistant, Park, asked, his voice tinged with curiosity.

Loira smiled as her mind raced with possibilities. "We have a big project ahead of us."

Pio's Point Of View...

Pio sat at his desk, trying to concentrate on the lesson, but the hushed whispers around him kept pulling his attention away. "Did you hear what happened last night?"

"We heard about it," one of his classmates whispered.

"The way Doctor Kyu was killed was brutal," another student added.

"He deserved it," someone else muttered.

"But who could have killed him?" another voice asked, a hint of disbelief in the words.

"Whoever did it, I’m glad they did it. Otherwise, we’d all be doomed. We have no idea what his experiment could’ve done to the world."

Pio’s classmates seemed to agree, but he felt uneasy. Something about the whole thing didn’t sit right with him.

"Whoever did it, they’re my hero now," another classmate declared.

"What that person did is still wrong," Lux interjected, his voice calm but firm. "They could’ve handed Doctor Kyu over to the police."

Pio glanced up, his eyes meeting Lux’s. Before he could reply, Coan walked over to him.

"Pio, are you okay?" Coan asked, his voice laced with concern.

"I’m fine," Pio replied, his gaze flicking back to the conversation happening around him.

"Did you hear what happened last night?" Coan asked again, his tone soft.

"Yes, I heard about it," Pio answered quietly.

Just then, the door to the classroom swung open, and Chief Xian entered, his commanding presence silencing the room instantly.

"Everyone, stand up and close the doors!" President Lux ordered.

The students quickly complied.

"I need three students to secretly investigate the murder case of Doctor Kyu," Chief Xian continued, his gaze sweeping the room. "I will choose who will be assigned to this first mission..."

"Stand up, Mr. Coan," he said.

Coan stood immediately, saluting. "Sir, Yes Sir!"

"Next, stand up, Mr. Lux."

Lux stood as well, his face serious. "Sir, Yes Sir!"

"Last one, stand up, Mr. Scorpio."

Pio stood up, his heart racing. "Sir, Yes Sir!"

"You three will secretly investigate the murder case of Doctor Kyu," Chief Xian commanded, his eyes hardening. "Stay alert at all times. It’s up to you to create your plan for this mission. I have great trust in you. Understood?!"

"Sir, Yes Sir!" they shouted in unison.

"Now, class dismissed."

At The Press Conference...

Director Maden stood before the press, his expression strained. "I sincerely apologize for what has happened here in our hospital. I never thought Doctor Kyu was capable of this. I knew him to be a kind and friendly doctor. But it turns out there was a monster hidden within his heart."

His eyes seemed to glisten with something darker as he continued, "To all the families of the patients who have gone missing, I deeply apologize for their disappearance. I promise to help the families affected and to strengthen the security of this hospital. Thank you very much."

The reporters immediately began firing questions. "Director Maden, did you really have no idea about what Doctor Kyu was doing?"

"Director, how will you address the chaos Doctor Kyu has caused in your hospital?"

"Director, how will you ensure better protection for your patients in this hospital?"

"I have nothing more to say. Thank you," Maden snapped, his words cutting through the air before he turned and walked off, his bodyguards close behind.

As soon as he was in the privacy of his office, Maden’s mask of calm cracked. "Ahhh! Damn you, Kyu! You’re worthless!" he shouted, throwing anything he could get his hands on. "I allowed you to do your experiment, brother, but damn you! You’ve ruined my hospital, damn you!"

He paced, his fists clenched, and then suddenly stopped. "Bodyguard! Go to Kyu’s house and find his video recorder!" he barked, his voice colder now.

"Yes, sir," the bodyguard responded quickly, leaving to carry out the order.

Maden’s lips curled into a cruel smile. "I will continue your experiment, Kyu. I’ve wanted this for so long. Now, it’s my turn to rule the world."
