As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm golden hue over the garden where the baby shower festivities had spilled out, the laughter of children playing and the chatter of family mingled with the soft hum of evening music. It was the perfect ending to an already beautiful day, but something in the air felt different. Sid’s younger sister, Suhana, was standing at the edge of the gathering, lost in thought as she watched the sunset. Her eyes reflected the colors of the sky, and a quiet peace seemed to settle over her.
She didn’t notice when Veer approached. Veer had been a close family friend for years—charming, kind-hearted, and someone who always made her laugh. But tonight, he seemed nervous, his usual easygoing demeanor replaced with a quiet intensity.
“Suhana?” he called softly, drawing her attention.
She turned, her face lighting up with a smile when she saw him. “Veer! I was wondering where you disappeared to.”
He smiled back, but there was something different about his expression tonight—something more serious. “I needed a moment to think,” he said, his voice steady but carrying an emotion that Suhana couldn’t quite place.
Suhana raised an eyebrow, curious. “That’s new. You’re usually the one keeping everyone entertained. What’s on your mind?”
Veer took a deep breath and, for a moment, simply looked at her—the woman he had grown to love more than he had ever imagined. “I’ve been wanting to talk to you for a while now, Suhana. But I wanted it to be the right moment.”
Suhana tilted her head, sensing the gravity in his words. “Veer, you’re scaring me. What’s going on?”
He stepped closer, close enough that she could see the slight tremor in his hands as he reached into his pocket. Taking out a small velvet box, he held it in front of her, and Suhana’s heart stopped for a beat.
“I’ve known you for years, Suhana,” he began, his voice low but filled with sincerity. “I’ve watched you grow into this beautiful, strong, and incredible woman. You’ve been by my side through everything, and I can’t imagine a future without you in it.”
Suhana’s breath caught in her throat as he continued.
“Today, surrounded by your family and with so much love in the air, I couldn’t think of a better moment to ask you this.” He knelt down on one knee, opening the box to reveal a delicate ring, its diamond catching the last rays of sunlight. “Suhana, will you marry me?”
The world seemed to freeze around her. For a moment, all the sounds of the celebration in the background faded away, and it was just her and Veer, his hopeful eyes searching hers for an answer.
Suhana’s hand flew to her mouth in shock. She had never imagined this moment coming today, not amidst the joy of her brother and sister-in-law’s baby shower. But now that it was here, she felt a wave of emotion rush over her. She had known Veer for years—his warmth, his generosity, his love for her family. And over time, she had felt something blossom between them, something more than friendship, though she had been too afraid to name it until now.
“Oh my God, Veer…” she whispered, her voice shaking. “Are you serious?”
Veer’s gaze remained steady. “I’ve never been more serious about anything in my life. I love you, Suhana. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Tears filled Suhana’s eyes, and without hesitation, she nodded. “Yes. Yes, Veer, I’ll marry you!”
In an instant, Veer stood, pulling her into his arms as cheers erupted from behind them. Unbeknownst to them, the entire family had been watching from the sidelines, waiting for the moment to explode in celebration.
Sid, who had been standing at the door with Jhanvi by his side, rushed forward, his face lit up with pride and happiness for his little sister. “Veer, you sly guy! You planned this all along, didn’t you?” Sid laughed, pulling both Suhana and Veer into a tight hug.
Jhanvi followed, her arms wrapped around Suhana as tears of joy streamed down her cheeks. “I’m so happy for you both,” she said softly. “This is perfect.”
The sisters—Shanvi, Dia, and Natasha—came over as well, surrounding Suhana with laughter and playful teasing. Shanvi nudged Suhana gently. “Looks like the baby shower wasn’t the only celebration today, huh?”
Suhana blushed, her heart still racing from the proposal. “I didn’t see it coming at all,” she admitted, looking up at Veer, who was still holding her hand tightly.
Veer smiled, his thumb gently caressing her fingers. “I wanted it to be a surprise.”
As the family gathered around them, offering congratulations and planning a new set of celebrations, Suhana realized how perfectly everything had fallen into place. The day had been one of joy, love, and togetherness, and now, with Veer by her side, her heart felt fuller than ever before.
As the night wore on, the laughter and music continued, but Suhana and Veer found a quiet moment alone. She looked up at him, her eyes shining with happiness.
“Did you ever think we’d end up here?” she asked softly.
Veer chuckled, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “I hoped we would. And now that we are, I promise I’ll spend every day making sure you never regret saying yes.”
Suhana smiled, resting her head on his shoulder as they watched the stars begin to twinkle in the sky above. She didn’t need promises of the future; in that moment, she knew that she had everything she could ever want.
