They are so close, so bloody close. He can feel the air around him starting to warm, the ground starting to rerun to the Earth and not give away to stone and misery as he trudged, barefooted towards the above.

He shouldn't have let this happen. He should have been keeping an eye on the god like he'd promised despite his own darkness, not playing with his lyre despite it being a sacred gift that he is generously thankful for.

Eurydice was like the sun, bright and beautiful with his male form, the red colouring that was sprinkled into his cheeks matching that which covered Orpheus's fingers as they gripped his instrument, dark curls embracing the barely liveable darkness around him.

He had played his way down here, down from the Heavens and the Earth betwixt to the gaps of a kingdom he'd never dare to tread if not for love. Those fingers, his fighters as they defended his person to Hades himself, his own love just as moved by his song of longing.

Now he's tasked with leading Eurydice back to the light and he dares not fail the mission, does he not? For if he should, Zeus may strike him down before he doth himself in the end.

All he wants is to feel Eurydice's warmth, his presence, his beauty, his grace. Feel his breath upon his lips, his touch upon his skin and his voice inside his ears more rich than any muse could ever make. He wants to sing to him with every breath he has left in him, the song in his heart overfull and bursting for him alone.

Is he there however, behind him in his step where he cannot feel that warmth? They told him not to gaze behind his person, less he damn Eurydice to Hell forever, to trust in him and in the realms worst. Did he sow truth however? Or was he selling Orpheus backstabbing lies?

There's one step, then another step and he feels the sun, then he stops...and turns around.
