Y/N's POV
The doors of the Great Hall swung open, and I was met with the sight of four long tables filled with students, all wearing their respective house colours; Green, Yellow, Red and Blue. Above us, the enchanted ceiling mirrored the starry night sky, and thousands of floating candles illuminated the room in a warm glow. My heart pounded as I followed the other new students inside, my eyes flitting nervously across the faces.
This was it—my first real step into the wizarding world.
As I walked down the aisle, I caught sight of Draco Malfoy at the Slytherin table. He smirked when he saw me, that familiar cocky glint in his eyes.
I reached the front of the hall and lined up with the other new students waiting for the Sorting Ceremony. Just as I was about to take my place, I felt a presence behind me."Looking a bit lost, aren't we?" Draco's voice drawled, low and teasing.
I turned to face him, suppressing a smile. "Lost? Not at all," I said, lifting my chin. "I think I'll manage."
He stepped closer, his platinum hair glinting under the candlelight, I could feel his hot breath on me. He lowered his voice. "Let's hope you don't manage your way into Gryffindor, though. I'd hate for you to be stuck with that lot." His eyes flicked over to where Harry was sitting with his friends, completely unaware of our conversation.
I raised an eyebrow, smirking slightly. "Why, Draco? Would you rather I end up in Slytherin, with you?"
His smirk deepened. "Maybe. You'd look good in green."
I rolled my eyes but couldn't stop the warmth that spread through me at his words. There was something about him—something magnetic.
Before I could respond, I heard someone call my name. I turned around to see Harry, Hermione, and Ron watching our exchange, their expressions wary. I gave Draco a small nod and moved toward them, feeling their eyes on me.
"Stay away from Malfoy," Ron said immediately, his voice filled with disgust. "He's trouble, trust me."
Hermione nodded in agreement. "He's not the kind of person you want to get involved with. He's a bully, Y/N."
I forced a smile. "It was just a conversation."
But I couldn't ignore the slight pang of disappointment. Draco might've been arrogant, but there was something about him that intrigued me.
As I sat down at the Gryffindor table, I couldn't shake the feeling that they were right. Still, Draco's words lingered in my mind. Before I could think more about it, I remembered the other thing that had been weighing on me.
"I'll be right back," I said to them suddenly.
"Where are you going?" Harry asked, narrowing his eyes in suspicion.
"I need to talk to Professor McGonagall about something," I said vaguely.
Hermione shot me a questioning look, but I couldn't stick around to explain. As I hurried toward the front of the hall, I felt their eyes on my back, but I kept walking. This was something I needed to do—something that couldn't wait.
Draco's POV
I watched as Y/N walked away from the Gryffindor table, her conversation with Potter and his friends cut short by something else on her mind. I leaned back in my seat, unable to stop the smirk that spread across my face.
There was something different about her. Most new students were either intimidated or eager to fit in, but not her. Y/N had a confidence about her that caught my attention the moment we met. She had the potential. I could see it in the way she held herself, the way she didn't back down from me, unlike most others. She would be a perfect addition to Slytherin... and having her on my side would make things very interesting. And I couldn't deny it—I wanted her in Slytherin.
What is wrong with me? I...I can't be thinking about a stupid girl who's been with Pottah all evening. And do I even want her in Slytherin? STOP THINKING ABOUT HER AND PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER DRACO!
