Y/N's POV

The dungeon was colder than I expected. The heavy stone walls seemed to close in, and the smell of dampness and potion ingredients lingered in the air. I walked into the Potions classroom, trying not to feel nervous. Professor Snape was already at the front of the room, his dark eyes sweeping over the students as they filed in. I kept my head down as I found an empty seat.

"Today, we will be working in pairs," Snape announced, his voice as cold as the air around us. I held my breath, hoping to be paired with someone I could at least tolerate. Maybe Hermione, or someone equally competent.

"Miss Y/N, you'll be paired with... Malfoy."My heart skipped a beat, and I glanced over at Draco, who was sitting across the room, already smirking. Of course. Of all the people in this class, I had to be paired with him. As I reluctantly moved toward his table, Draco's eyes followed me, his smirk growing wider.

"Looks like we'll be spending some quality time together," he drawled, leaning back in his chair with that irritating, yet somehow charming, confidence.I rolled my eyes and sat down next to him, keeping my distance. "Let's just focus on the potion," I muttered.

"Don't worry, I'm more than capable of handling it," Draco said, his voice dripping with arrogance. He leaned forward, his arm brushing against mine as he reached for the ingredients. The contact sent an unexpected jolt through me, and I quickly pulled away, hoping he didn't notice. But of course, he did.

"Careful, Y/N," he teased, his voice low and smooth. "You don't want to mess up on your first day."I could feel my cheeks burning. "I can handle myself, Malfoy."

Draco grinned and began preparing the ingredients, his movements quick and confident. As much as I hated to admit it, he was good at Potions. Really good. I watched as he measured and mixed, his hands precise and steady, and for a moment, I found myself impressed. But I quickly shook off the feeling.

"Staring already?" he whispered, glancing at me from the corner of his eye. "I didn't know I had that effect on you."I scoffed. "In your dreams."

We continued working on the potion, but there was a tension between us that grew stronger with each passing minute. Draco's hand brushed against mine again, this time deliberately, and I couldn't ignore the way my pulse quickened. What was happening to me? This was Draco Malfoy—the boy I was told to avoid. And yet, there was something about him. His confidence, the way he carried himself—it was infuriating, but... intriguing.

"Am I distracting you?" he asked, leaning in a little closer, his breath warm against my neck.I clenched my jaw, refusing to look at him. "You're annoying me, if that's what you mean."He chuckled softly, the sound sending a strange warmth through me. "I don't believe you."

Before I could respond, Snape appeared behind us, his black cloak sweeping across the floor like a shadow. He gave me a cold, piercing look before turning to Draco.

"Malfoy, I expect perfection from you," Snape said, his tone softer than usual. Then, his eyes flicked back to me. "And as for you, Miss Y/N, I hope you can keep up. You wouldn't want to embarrass yourself on your first day."

I swallowed hard, feeling the weight of his words. Why was he being so harsh? I glanced at Draco, who raised an eyebrow as if he knew exactly why Snape was acting this way. It was because of Harry. He knew about my connection to him, even if he didn't know the full truth. I heard that  Snape hated Harry, and by association, he didn't seem to like me much either.

We finished the potion in tense silence, but the air between Draco and me was still charged with an unspoken energy. As I started to pack up my things, Draco leaned in close again, his voice barely a whisper.

"You're not so bad at Potions after all," he said, his breath warm against my ear. "Maybe we could work together... outside of class."

I blinked, caught off guard by the offer. Was he seriously asking me to spend more time with him? My mind raced, torn between the attraction I was beginning to feel and the logical side of me that knew this was a bad idea."Think about it," he added with a smirk, before turning and walking out of the classroom, leaving me standing there, confused and conflicted.

Draco's POV

I couldn't stop watching her. From the moment Snape paired us together, I knew this class was going to be interesting. Y/N wasn't like the other girls at Hogwarts—she didn't fall over herself to impress me. Instead, she acted like she couldn't care less, and for some reason, that only made me want to push her buttons more.

As we worked on the potion, I made sure to brush against her, just to see how she'd react. I noticed the way her breath caught, how she tried to hide her blush. It was... fun. She tried to act tough, but I could tell she was affected. And if I was being honest, so was I.

There was something about her that intrigued me. She was mysterious, new, and I couldn't help but wonder what she was hiding. Why was Snape so cold to her? What was her connection to Potter? And why did I care so much?

When I suggested working together after class, I could see the conflict in her eyes. She was tempted. I could feel it. But she wasn't going to make it easy for me, and I liked that. I like a challenge.

Y/N's POV

I sat at my desk later that night, staring at a blank piece of parchment, trying to gather my thoughts. Everything had happened so fast. My first week at Hogwarts was nothing like I imagined. I had met my brother, been sorted into Gryffindor, and now... Draco Malfoy was getting under my skin in ways I didn't expect.

I sighed and began to write a letter to Remus.

"Dear Remus,
Hogwarts has been... overwhelming. There's so much to tell you, but I don't even know where to start. Classes are fine, but Potions is... complicated. I was paired with someone who I thought would be my enemy, but he's... different than I expected.

I know you're probably wondering about Harry. I haven't told him yet. I don't even know how to. But I've met him. He's everything you said he would be, and more.

I miss you, and I wish you were here. I could use some advice right about now."

I paused, staring at the letter. Everything felt so complicated. Draco, Harry, my place at Hogwarts—it was all tangled together, and I didn't know how to make sense of it.
