The Hogwarts Express

Y/N's POV

The hum of the train beneath my feet felt almost comforting as I sat alone in the compartment. The Hogwarts Express was everything I had imagined: red velvet seats, the smell of fresh parchment in the air, the distant chatter of students in the corridors. And yet, despite the excitement, I couldn't shake the nerves twisting in my stomach.
I stared out the window, watching the rolling hills blur by, my thoughts swirling just as fast. Everything had changed in a day. My family wasn't who I thought they were. I had a brother—a brother who had no idea I existed. I was about to step into a world where everyone knew his name, but no one knew mine.

A sudden creak pulled me from my thoughts. The compartment door slid open, and I glanced up to see three figures standing in the doorway. The one in the centre immediately caught my attention—a tall boy with pale skin and platinum blonde hair that seemed to shimmer in the dim light. His eyes were sharp and cold, but there was something captivating about him. He looked at me like he was sizing me up.
"You must be new," he said smoothly, his voice carrying a note of arrogance. His two companions, larger and less refined, stood behind him like bodyguards. "I'm Draco Malfoy."

I nodded, feeling slightly flustered under his gaze. "I'm Y/N."
Draco tilted his head, his lips curling into a smirk. "Y/N, huh?" He seemed to savour the sound of my name before adding, "Well, good luck. You'll need it."
There was something about the way he said it—"Y/N". He was both intriguing and unsettling at the same time. I couldn't help but feel drawn to him, and I've only known him for a minute.

But before I could respond, his two friends—Crabbe and Goyle, I thought I overheard—stepped forward, pushing their way into the compartment. The space immediately felt smaller, and the tension rose.
"Mind if we join you?" Crabbe asked, as he shoved his way into the compartment.

I hesitated, suddenly uncomfortable with the idea of being stuck in a small space with these boys. I stood up, clutching my bag. "Actually, I think I'll find another seat."
Draco raised an eyebrow, but didn't stop me as I slid past them and into the corridor. I felt their eyes on my back as I walked away, my heart pounding faster than before.

Draco's POV

I watched her leave, my eyes following her as she slipped out of the compartment. There was something about that girl—Y/N. She was new, clearly, but there was more to it. She carried herself with a kind of quiet confidence, though she seemed a bit rattled by my presence.

Good.

I liked it when people were a little on edge around me. It made things... easier. But she didn't seem scared. Interesting.

"Who do you think she is?" Crabbe asked, shoving a handful of sweets into his mouth.

I shrugged, leaning back in my seat. "No one important."

At least, not yet.

Y/N's POV

I wandered through the corridor, feeling a mix of relief and unease. Draco Malfoy was... intense. I didn't know what to make of him, but I wasn't exactly in the mood to sit with him and his friends.

As I moved past compartment after compartment, I bumped into someone.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" I said quickly, looking up at a girl with bushy brown hair and a kind, yet intense expression.

"No problem," she said, smiling warmly. "Are you lost?"

I shook my head. "No, I just... I'm new, and I'm trying to find a place to sit."

Her eyes lit up with understanding. "You must be a transfer! I'm Hermione Granger. You can sit with us if you'd like."

Hermione led me to the next compartment, where two boys were sitting. One was tall with fiery red hair, and the other had dark, messy hair and round glasses. His face was so familiar... I could barely breathe.

Harry.

I swallowed hard as Hermione opened the door. "Ron, Harry, this is Y/N. She's new."

Harry looked up, his green eyes—our mother's eyes—meeting mine for the first time. There was something about him that made my heart ache, but I forced myself to smile and sit down across from him.

"Hi," he said simply, offering a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "Welcome to Hogwarts."
"Thanks," I said, my voice softer than I intended.

The conversation in the compartment flowed naturally between the three of them, but I found myself unable to focus. All I could think about was the fact that the boy sitting across from me was my brother. The boy who had no idea I existed.

They talked about the adventures from the last to years, and Ron made some comments about Draco, 'I don't think they like him' I thought to myself, but all I could really focus on was my brother, who sat right across me. After a while, I couldn't take it anymore. I had to ask, even if it was hypothetical.

"So," I began, trying to sound casual, "do you think... having a sister would've made things different for you?"
Harry looked up from the Chocolate Frog card he was examining, raising an eyebrow at the strange question. "A sister?" he repeated as if the idea had never crossed his mind.
"Yeah," I said, my heart pounding. "You know, if you'd had a sister. Do you think it would've been better? Or worse?"
Harry's expression hardened slightly, and he leaned back in his seat. "I don't know. I've never really thought about it," he said, shrugging. "Honestly, why would I want a sister? I've been fine on my own."

His words hit me like a punch to the gut, but I forced a smile and nodded. "Right. I guess that makes sense."

But inside, I felt my heart sink.
