Y/N's POV

After leaving the Great Hall, I found Professor McGonagall near the entrance to the castle, speaking to another teacher. My heart pounded as I approached her, nerves bubbling up inside me.

"Professor McGonagall?" I said hesitantly.

She turned to face me, her expression unreadable. "Miss Y/N, what is it?"

I took a deep breath, glancing around to make sure no one else was listening. "I... I'd like to ask that you don't announce my last name during the Sorting Ceremony."

Her sharp eyes softened slightly, and she nodded in understanding. "Very well. You wish to keep your identity private for now?"

I nodded. "Yes, I'm not ready for everyone to know."

"I will respect your wishes," she said firmly. "Now, hurry along. The Sorting is about to begin."

I thanked her quietly and hurried back into the hall, feeling a mix of relief and anxiety. As I rejoined the line of students waiting for their names to be called, my mind was racing.

"Y/N," Professor McGonagall called out, her voice clear and commanding.

Before long, it was my turn. I approached the stool, my heart in my throat as I sat down and the Sorting Hat was placed on my head.

Ah, another Potter, the Hat whispered inside my mind, its voice thoughtful. But you're different, aren't you? Not quite like your brother...

I squeezed my eyes shut, not knowing what to expect.

You've got courage, but also ambition. There's a bit of cunning in you, too. You could do well in Slytherin, you know.

My breath hitched. Slytherin? I couldn't. Not with Harry in Gryffindor.

Are you sure? the Hat mused. You would thrive there... But there is loyalty in you as well. Perhaps Gryffindor is where you truly belong.

I felt my heart race as the Hat continued to deliberate, and I knew the entire hall was waiting for its decision.

Very well, the Hat finally said, its voice decisive. Better be... GRYFFINDOR!

The Gryffindor table erupted in cheers, and I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding. As I walked over to join them, I couldn't help but glance over at the Slytherin table. Draco's eyes were locked on mine, his expression unreadable—perhaps even disappointed.

Draco's POV

The Hat's decision was final, but I couldn't shake the feeling of frustration. As I watched Y/N walk to the Gryffindor table, greeted by Potter and his friends, I clenched my jaw. She would've fit perfectly in Slytherin, I knew it.

But now? Now she was one of them. It didn't change the fact that I still wanted to know more about her and hang out with her. Gryffindor or not, this wasn't over.
