This is just a bit more of an explanation of the story of Psyche I recommend reading but you do not have to this is only if you are interested in a deeper understanding.

Once, in a kingdom long ago, there was a princess named Psyche, known for her extraordinary beauty. Her beauty was so mesmerizing that people began to worship her, even more than they worshipped the goddess Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. Aphrodite, feeling slighted by this, sent her son, Eros (also known as Cupid), to punish Psyche, making her fall in love with the most hideous creature.

But when Eros saw Psyche, he was so struck by her beauty that he accidentally pricked himself with one of his own arrows and fell deeply in love with her. Eros, secretly, took Psyche away to a palace hidden in the mountains, where she lived in luxury. However, she was told that she could never see his face. He only visited her at night, and their love blossomed in the dark, a love filled with mystery and passion.

Despite the promise, Psyche grew curious and one night, unable to resist, she lit a lamp while Eros was asleep, revealing his divine, handsome form. But a drop of oil from the lamp burned him, waking him up. Heartbroken by her disobedience, Eros fled, leaving Psyche alone and desperate.

Determined to win back her love, Psyche went on a perilous journey. She sought the help of the gods, enduring tasks set by Aphrodite, including sorting a mountain of mixed grains, retrieving golden wool from dangerous sheep, and fetching water from the River Styx. She thought these tasks impossible so she tried to kill herself. But with the help of other gods and creatures along the way, Psyche completed each task.

Finally, after overcoming the impossible, Psyche was granted immortality by Zeus, the king of the gods. She was reunited with Eros, and their love was eternal. Together, they had a daughter named Voluptas, the goddess of pleasure.

As a result of her trials and ultimate triumph, Psyche was transformed into the goddess of the soul. She represented the human soul's journey, filled with hardships and growth, but also the beauty of transformation. She was often symbolized by the butterfly, which became her sacred emblem. The butterfly represented the soul's metamorphosis, from ignorance to wisdom, from suffering to enlightenment. Just as a caterpillar transforms into a delicate butterfly, Psyche's own transformation from a mortal woman to an immortal goddess embodied the soul's potential for growth and rebirth.

And so, Psyche, the goddess of the soul, was forever remembered for her resilience and her love—a love that not only transcended mortal bounds but also symbolized the eternal journey of the soul.
