Mikayla awoke to the sound of dresser drawers opening and closing. She rolled around to face the direction of the noise and opened one eye to see what it was.
"Hannah, it's six in the morning! Go back to bed!"
"No!" She said, throwing things out of the dresser.
"Do tell what is SO important that you woke me up!" Mikayla said, impatiently.
"OUR GRADUATION FROM THE POLICE ACADEMY YOU IDIOT!"
"Kid, I swear to g-"
"Just because you're mad about being thirty, doesn't excuse you from the graduation! Now get out of bed!" Hannah said, flipping the mattress over.
Mikayla crawled out from under the mattress, hair all messed up. She straightened out her clothes, brushed herself off and glared in Hannah's direction. "I hope you know I'm gonna kill you for that later!" She said, while still tossing a glare in Hannah's direction.
"Calm down and listen to me for one minute." Hannah replied, hands on her hips and a mildly annoyed expression.
"This better be quick."
"Remember when you were a teenager?"
"Bring me back to the time I was a drug and alcohol addict, that's really what I wanted to hear about right now."
"That's not what I'm trying to say. All I'm saying is when you were that age, you told yourself you had no future. That you were going no where in life."
"What about it? Is this lecture supposed to prove something?"
"You're graduating from the police academy today. You proved all those people whoever doubted you, wrong."
"So what?"
"You still have the same attitude you did as a kid."
"It's something I don't think I'm gonna grow out of."
"The point is, you proved them wrong. You made something of yourself, even when you put yourself down. Do you know how proud your parents are gonna be when they see you in that uniform?"
"I just wish Jonah could be here..."
"Did he say when he was coming home?"
"He said next week sometime, but you never really know..."
"Hey, you two mind keeping it down in here?" Brayden said, appearing in the doorway.
"Piss off, Brayden." Hannah said, slamming the door right in his face.
He walked back to his room, where Jamie and Diego were still fast asleep.
"Hey guys, you gotta get up and dressed."
"Wake me up at noon." Jamie said, not even coming out from under the covers.
"Jamie Roman! Get your ass up!" Brayden yelled, tossing a pillow at him full force, causing him to fall off the top bunk.
Diego rolled out of bed, yawning. "Why does the ceremony have to be so early?"
"The ceremony isn't until noon. We need to pack up our dorms, get ready and all that. There's a hundred people in our class, so you know how long that'll take."
"Knowing Mikayla, Eva and all them, this could take all week."
Brayden was walking down to his fitness instructor's office, when he saw his mom standing by the front desk.
"Hey mom."
"Look at my little police officer." She smiled and gave him a tight hug.
"Not quite yet." He laughed. "At noon today I will be. How is everyone?"
