Trudy could not believe what she had just heard. She rapidly blinked before continuing the conversation.
"It's the fireman's kid, isn't it?"
"Yeah...him and I kinda..."
"Played scrabble?"
"Yeah, let's go with that."
Brayden was just coming inside, when he saw them talking. "Everything alright?"
"Um, my definition of alright would be fitting for this."
"Hannah, every time you've said that it wasn't usually something good."
Trudy went back to her desk so they could talk.
"What is it?"
She pulled him into the new commander's office and shut the door. "You need to swear on your life that you won't tell anyone."
"What is it?"
"I slept with Noah, and..."
"And what?"
"I'm pregnant."
"You're pregnant?!"
"SHUT UP." She slapped her hand across his mouth.
"You do realize that dad is gonna be pissed, right?"
"That's exactly why I don't plan on telling him."
"It's gonna become pretty obvious when you walk into work with an extended belly."
"I just barely found out. I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a while before that happens."
"Could you two explain to me what you're doing in my office?" The commander demanded.
"I was talking to my brother, now if you don't mind."
"This is my office and neither of you have permission to be in here."
"Look lady, no one is happy about you being here-"
"Who gave you the right to talk to me like that?!"
Leslie could hear all the yelling from her office and decided to intervene. "Do any of you care to tell me what's going on here?"
The commander's eyes grew wide and she stopped talking.
"Well?"
"All I did was take Brayden in here for not even five minutes so I could tell him something. Then Ms. Crab ass here comes in and starts screaming at us. We didn't touch of any of her things, all we did was talk."
Leslie looked over at the commander. The commander gave her a displeased look.
"Everyone's so buddy buddy here, it makes me sick."
"No one said you had to be here. In fact, none of us want you here."
"Good. I don't care. I'm thinking about replacing that desk sergeant out there."
"Replace Trudy? Are you mad?!" Brayden made a face of disgust.
"That woman is fifty five years old. It's about time she retired."
"You're crazy if you think you can get rid of her. That's not gonna happen. What should happen is you losing your job. You see the plaque on the wall right there? Until you go through what she went through, you've got no authority here."
