The vibrant colors of the Halloween decorations flickered under the dim lights of the haunted mansion, where Stella’s party was in full swing. Sune adjusted her witch’s hat, feeling both excited and nervous as she stepped into the room. The air was thick with enchanting scents—candied apples, pumpkin spice, and an undercurrent of something more mysterious. She and Lina had just arrived with John, each brimming with anticipation for what the night might hold.

Sune scanned the bustling room, which pulsed with laughter and music. It was alive with a cacophony of costumes, and her gaze landed on Lina. Dressed in a delicate fairy costume, complete with shimmering wings that caught the light, Lina radiated an ethereal beauty that brightened the dim surroundings. Her laughter rang like music, mingling with the playful chaos of the party.

“Hey, Lina! There are so many people here tonight!” Sune called out, her heart racing as she moved closer to Lina.

“Yeah!" Lina replied, her cheeks flushing slightly. “I was hoping the wings would give me an extra boost of confidence this year and it did!” Her smile was infectious, and Sune couldn’t help but beam back. Behind her confident façade, however, Lina felt a storm brewing inside. She was hiding a secret; she was a vampire, trying to blend in with the joyous atmosphere, battling the urge that always seemed more potent during Halloween.

“Do you think Stella went all out with the decorations?” Lina asked, glancing around. “This place feels different.”

“It’s perfect for a haunted celebration,” Sune replied with a grin. They moved toward the center of the room, where guests danced like flickering shadows against the walls. For a brief moment, Sune allowed herself to forget all uncertainties, reveling in the closeness she felt with Lina.

John, their friend dressed as a vampire, emerged from the snack table, grinning goofily. “I love my friends. The fairy and the witch? You two are a magical duo!” He raised his cup, filled with punch, and laughed.“What are you up to?” Sune asked teasingly “Me? I’m just here to drink all the punch and look dramatic!”

“Just don’t drink too much, Count!” Sune teased, noticing Lina’s slight twinge of discomfort. The thought of John’s playful nature was comforting, yet the hint of darkness that lurked beneath the surface of their celebration remained unspoken.

As John wandered off, Sune turned back to Lina, her gaze warm. “Did you hear the story about the haunted mansion? Everyone says it’s cursed!”

Lina tried to ignore the flutter of nerves in her stomach. “Yeah, there were some old tales… Mostly just rumors, right?” Her voice was light, but Sune caught a hint of something deeper. The allure of the party did little to quell her secret longing for Sune, feelings she dared not voice.

While Sune was entranced in Lina’s sparkling eyes, Lina felt a strange pull as if the secrets of her heart were whispering louder than ever. Just as she opened her mouth to say more, a commotion erupted from the back of the house.

“Did you hear that?” Sune’s expression shifted as uncertainty crept back into her thoughts. “It sounded like a scream.”

Before Lina could respond, they were interrupted by a shattering of laughter and excitement. But beneath the mirth, a sense of dread settled over the room—a premonition that something was off.

As the music continued to thump, and the laughter rang out, Sune couldn’t shake the feeling that darkness lurked just beyond the thin veil of celebration. She glanced at Lina, who wore a mask of serenity, but Sune could see the tension etched in her features.

And in that moment, deep within the mansion, an unsuspecting tragedy was about to unfold—a revelation that would change everything and shatter the fragile happiness they had gathered just moments before.
