Sunlight streamed through Sune's bedroom window, casting warm rays over her sheets, gently rousing her from a deep slumber. She stirred slowly, blinking sleep from her eyes, and for a moment, she couldn’t shake the sensation that she had been caught in a tangled dream. The remnants of the previous night—Stella’s death, the confrontation with Michael, the chaotic blend of werewolves and vampires—felt like echoes fading into a surreal haze.
Sune sat up, rubbing her temples. “What a messed-up dream,” she muttered to herself, trying to make sense of the phantoms of her memory. Maybe everything that happened would eventually blur into a strange tale, a narrative spun from anxiety and fear.
But as her senses sharpened and the real world rose to meet her, she noticed something was off. The faint sounds of chatter filtered through the hallway, pulling her from her thoughts. Curiosity piqued, she threw on a pair of sweatpants and a T-shirt, then made her way toward the kitchen.
As she approached, the voices grew clearer, and she hesitated at the door, heart pounding gently in her chest. What if it was all a nightmare? What if she had just imagined Lina, Freya, and the werewolves? However, as she stepped into the kitchen, the sight before her was all too real.
Lina, with her hair slightly tousled and an apron tied around her waist, leaned against the counter, listening intently to Freya, who was animatedly recounting the events of the night before. John leaned against the fridge, a cup of coffee in hand, looking concerned yet hopeful.
“—and the thing is,” Freya said, her voice steady, “we need to consider all angles. Stella had a lot of enemies, and whoever did this might be coming after us next.”
“It’s not a matter of enemies; it’s about predators,” John replied. “We all know how the vampire community can be… You think it could have been internal?”
Sune felt a rush of disbelief; this was not a dream. The reality of her situation hit her like a wave. She stepped into the kitchen, drawing the attention of the trio, and the conversation paused.
“Sune!” Lina exclaimed, her face lighting up with relief. “You’re awake.”
“Yeah,” Sune said hesitantly, glancing between them. “What’s going on?”
“We were just discussing Stella’s death,” John explained, concern etching his features. “The police won’t take any supernatural involvement seriously, so we have to figure this out ourselves.”
Freya nodded, a fierce look in her eyes. “We’ll find out who’s responsible. We have to protect our own, and that includes you.”
Sune swallowed hard, grappling with a mix of dread and curiosity. “Okay, but… Did last night really happen? All of it?”
Lina stepped closer, her gaze softening. “Yes, it really happened. And… it’s not just a dream, Sune. The supernatural world is real.”
Sune felt her heart race. “Lina,” she started cautiously, her thoughts racing back to the vulnerable confession shared under the stars. “About what you said last night… Do you really mean it? When you said you love me?”
Lina’s cheeks flushed, her joy evident, but she nodded, sincerity filling her eyes. “I meant every word.”
Caught off guard, Sune felt her chest tighten in disbelief and warmth. All those months of hidden feelings, the moments stolen at parties, the lingering glances—they flooded back in a rush. “You love me? But… you’re a vampire. I mean, this is all so confusing…”
“And I understand if you’re scared,” Lina interjected, urgency threading through her voice. “But my feelings are real. You have to know that I would never hurt you. I wanted to tell you for so long, but everything spiraled out of control. I wanted to keep you safe.”
Sune found herself torn between her feelings and the fear that still lurked in her heart. “I’ve had feelings for you since forever, Lina,” she admitted, voice trembling. “But all of this… It changes everything.”
“We’ll figure it out together,” Lina promised, her expression softening further. “I want to show you what this world is really like, the good and the bad. You deserve to understand everything, and you deserve to feel safe.”
Freya, who had been clocking their interaction, smiled, sensing the bond that was forming. “We’ll all help you, Sune. Being supernatural isn’t just about the fights and the dangers. There’s magic, community, family… and yes, love too.”
“Family?” Sune echoed, digesting Freya’s words, which were so foreign yet enticing.
“Exactly,” John said, stepping forward. “We may have different blood running through our veins, but we can come together as one unit to face whatever darkness lies ahead.”
Sune took a deep breath, contemplating their words. It was a lot to process, and yet, with Lina by her side, she felt hopeful. “I want to know more. I want to understand this world that you’re part of.”
Lina beamed, her eyes sparkling in sheer delight. “I’ll show you everything, I promise. We can start with the basics. There’s a whole other world you haven’t seen yet, and I want you to be part of it.”
“Just remember,” Freya chimed in playfully, “you’re not getting an ordinary explanation. This is a wild ride—just like last night.”
“Right,” Sune laughed nervously, the tension breaking slightly. “And I thought my life was complicated before!”
Lina smirked, her confidence returning. “Welcome to the supernatural. It’s going to be an adventure—one filled with challenges, laughter, and maybe a little danger too.”
As the morning sun flooded the kitchen, Sune felt a flicker of hope. Maybe this was a nightmare she could wake up from, only to find a world bursting with possibilities waiting beyond. She was standing on a precipice, ready to embrace whatever came next—especially with Lina by her side.
