Molly

I was spent.

We were both spent.

I don't remember falling asleep, but when we woke up in the morning, Henry was demanding that I cook.

"Are you insane? Cook for yourself."

"I cooked last time."

"Why don't we cook together?"

"That's not my job," he huffed and walked out of the bedroom as if it was my job to cater to him.

"Henry, you can fuck right off!" I shouted from the room, "I need to shower."

I didn't shower, though. I grabbed my clothes and a bag and snuck out of the window.

"This isn't for me..." I said, "I'd rather take my chances with the Drifters."

Henry

I let her leave.

I wondered if she knew.

Watching her from the living room window as I sipped my coffee, I wondered how far she was going to get.

She was a feisty one and I didn't love her.

Or did I?

That was the one thing about a mate bond—you didn't automatically love a mate. We were blessed with them, but sometimes the worst things are blessings in disguise.

I kept watching her until she was out of sight, but with my vision, I could see her quite well.

"Oh..Molly..." I shook my head, "How will you defend yourself against those creatures without my help?"

I finished the rest of my coffee and dressed, still feeling her close by.

"Well..." I shrugged and dressed slowly, chuckling to myself that she'd need me again.

Maybe she'd always need me.

Maybe I always needed her.

Had I always needed her?

Molly

I found a cave to rest in.

I knew he could sense me, but I didn't care.

Perhaps he'd tell everyone I was killed by the Drifters so he wouldn't have to be with me.

Everything I remembered about him—he remembered nothing of me.

Somehow though, I wasn't interested in thinking about Devin.

I was only interested in thinking about Henry.

Before long, the night fell and I wondered if he was worried about me at all.

I heard a rustling in the distance, but any creature could have been out there.

I kept my eyes peeled.

"Why don't you come home?"

He linked my wolf.

"I don't want to."

"Stupid girl—crazy wolf. You're going to be torn to shreds out there—or worse."

I didn't reply.

Let him babble to me all night if he wanted to.

"Don't you dare turn off your scent from me."

"Or what?"

"Or you won't like me when I find you."

"I already don't like you."

"Liar."

Henry

I stayed with her mentally for a while until I felt her grow tired.

I could see her in the cave and knew she was safe for the time being, but I could take no chances.

Gathering myself, I stepped into the cool night and shifted, taking my time before coming onto the cave where I found her asleep.

I didn't shift back into my flesh form—no, I decided to curl up next to her as my wolf.

"You're a pain in my ass.." I thought to myself and then I recalled something I hadn't in years. It was like a light went off in my head. I perked up and yelped. I couldn't believe I remembered it:

The very first time we went fishing together...
