SHE'S SITTING ALONE at a table in the cafeteria, picking at her food listlessly when she sees melody and nia approaching. their faces unreadable. she feels a flicker of hope mixed with anxiety.

maybe they're finally going to talk to her. but the look on their faces makes her worry that it might not be a good conversation.

they take seats across from her, leaving a clear division between them. the tension in the air is palpable, and she fidgets nervously under their gaze.

"we need to talk," melody starts, her tone firm. she's straight to the point, not wasting any time with small talk. calista's heart thuds in her chest.

the suddenness of melody's words startles her. she glances between their faces, trying to gauge what they're about to say. "listen," melody continues, her eyes flickering to nia for a split second before returning to calista.

"we saw your message and we're just gonna say it quickly." calista can feel her heart pounding even harder. her hands clench involuntarily, her anxiety building by the second.

melody takes a moment before speaking again, her eyes never leaving calista's. "we don't want to be friends with you anymore. we think you're moving too fast calista. you're pregnant by a boy you're not dating, and you're only sixteen."

her brain is spinning, a million thoughts racing through her mind at once. her mouth opens and closes wordlessly, her voice refusing to cooperate.

there's a moment of silence that feels like an eternity, the only sound being the drone of the cafeteria around them. finally, she manages to croak out a response. "what?"
