Marvallia

"Exactly how long was she up for?"

I massage my temples, just wonderfully overjoyed to see Riordan passed out on my sofa—the absolute last thing I needed.

"Nearly a week."

"A week!? Sheesh— how the hell did she manage that?"

Daniel paces around the room like a frightened father.

"She used to have a caffeine problem back in the day. This whole Macha thing clearly hasn't helped."

"Yeah, no kidding. I appreciate you for bringing her here—I was just hoping she'd be..." I gesture towards her general area, "alive."

"She IS alive—"

"Oh you know what I mean, boy. Riordan is no good to the Power Sibyl when she's unconscious."

"I'm sure she'll wake up soon."

"You said that four hours ago when you rushed in with her all bridal style."

"By all means, you're the clairvoyant. Can't you just predict when she's gonna wake up?"

"Ugh, you of all people should know that our powers don't work that way. Most of our visions are involuntary and uncontrolled."

"Well, I've seen Danny control it." Daniel murmurs.

I analyze him, confused.

His brows furrow. "What? Why're you looking at me like that?"

"What do you mean by you've seen her control it?"

"I've watched her draw information from Martie when she was at the hospital—like she was searching her memory or something."

Damn.

I can't even do that.

"She really is more powerful than I thought."

"Yeah, you should've seen Soren's face when he got thrown into the hospital wall by psychic force. I've never seen her do that before."

Soren.

Poor kid. The thing hasn't left my guest room since he told me what happened that night.  He's been absolutely wrecked from the guilt of letting Blake be on her own.

And to say the least, Riordan's clairvoyancy is full of surprises. It wasn't until Soren came home did I realize  how impertinent it was for her to learn control.

"He's staying with me at the moment."

"He is? Well, tell him to get his ass out here. Isn't he supposed to be the one presenting her to the Sibyl?"

"I'm gonna be doing it, actually."

He quints at me.

"Oh. Well...either way, we could use his help waking her up." Daniel points to the empty couch behind him and my eyes nearly bulge out of my head.

"Wh—where'd she go?"

Daniel and I spin around the room to find Riordan standing by a window sill in my library.
