Keeping Afloat (A Wintumn Story)

The greatest gift.

Autumn had never thought about having kids. It's not like she didn't want any. She just never thought she was ever in the right place or with the right person to have kids, she also was scared she wouldn't be a good mother considering what lazy excuse for parents she had.

Winter on the other hand always knew he wanted to be a Father, the idea had never been a doubt in his mind. But had never been in a long term relationship so he had never even spoken to any of his ex partners about this. Not until now.

Him and Autumn had touched briefly on the subject but not enough to know what each other wants.

So when Autumn saw the positive test result sitting in front of her she didn't know what to think. She couldn't tell if she was excited or if she even wanted the baby at all. Was Winter going to be mad, they hadn't planned this, what if he hated her after this.

She sat at the end of the bed staring at the test. She had to take another to be sure. There was no point telling Winter until she was completely convinced right?

So she did another test. Whilst she waited she decided to do her evening routine. Then she would know the test would definitely be done. So that's what she did. She removed her makeup smudged from the day, let her hair down and put on a pair of shorts and Winters hoodie.

Once she came back into the bathroom and went to pick up the test, she froze, what if he hated her, what if he never wanted to speak to her again.

No she couldn't think like that, what ever happened they would get through it together as they always did. She sat on the bath room floor

Did she want kids, was SHE ready for this. What if she was an horrible Mother like her Mother.

Was she ready for this. What if she couldn't keep the baby safe. What if she treated them horribly like her Father did her.

She took a deep breath.

Positive.

Her breath hitch.

Was she ready for this? She thought for a minute.

Yes.

She was going to be the best Mother she could to this child and not be the coward like her Mother was.

She was going to give this baby all the love she never received from her Father.

This baby was going to have everything she never had because she already felt some much love in her heart for them. More love her Mother and Father combined could give her. She was going to be understanding and the listening ear she never had as a child to her baby. Her child is never going to have to wonder if love exists or if they are loveless because she was going to show them what love was.

Herself and Winter.

Winter.

He didn't know. She got so wrapped up in what she was feeling she completely forgot about him. She quickly stood up and ran downstairs. So quickly Winter thought something must be wrong.

"You alright, my love, what's happened?"

"I was late and I didn't realise I was late because of how sick I've been, but I thought maybe it could be something else and maybe that's why I'm not getting better like you did so I took a test and another just to make sure because I wanted to be sure." She had to stop how quickly she was talking mixed how fast she just ran down the stairs made her realise how quickly she was talking.

"Slow down, what do you mean you took a test?" He asked pushing her hair behind her ear.

She pulled the pregnancy test out her pocket. "I'm pregnant." She said beaming ear to ear.

It took Winter to process what Autumn had just said. "Yo- your pregnant?" He had to ask again. He felt as if he was dreaming. His girlfriend was pregnant.

"I'm pregnant." She said again looking up at him. Tears started to fall from his eyes. Crap he didn't want a child with her. Of course he didn't, why would he. We're the thought circulating Autumns head.

"We don't have to have it, if you don't want to, we don't have to." He looked at her. "Are you joking of course I want this, if that's what you want."

Autumn's face lit up again.

"We're having a baby."

"We're having a baby."

Winter wrapped his arms around his girlfriend and hugged her so tight as if she was going to disappear if he let go.

"My sweet"

"Yes my love"

"You're squishing me."

Winter let go letting out a small laugh as she said it.

"I love you." He said to Autumn then crouched down to her stomach. "And I love you too." He said to her stomach before giving it a kiss."

What ever was going to happen next with them and their baby Autumn and Winter were sure of one thing. They had each other no matter what life through that them they knew that nothing could break the love they had for each other. What they had was special and what they had been looking for their whole lives and now they were going to show their baby the love they not only had for each other but for them whenever they were born too.
