When the day came for Aanya to confront her parents, she felt a mix of nerves and determination. She had spent hours rehearsing what she would say, but nothing could prepare her for the reality of the conversation.
Sitting at the dining table, the atmosphere was tense. Her parents exchanged worried glances as Aanya cleared her throat.
"Mom, Dad, there's something I need to talk to you about," Aanya began, her heart racing. "It's about Meera."
Her mother's expression immediately shifted to concern. "Aanya, we've talked about this. We just want what's best for you."
"I know," Aanya replied, her voice steady despite the tremor in her hands. "But Meera makes me happy. She's not just a phase or a mistake; she's someone I love. I want you to understand that."
Her father's brow furrowed, and Aanya could see the conflict in his eyes. "But what about the future? We had plans for you, Aanya. This... this is different."
"It is different," Aanya insisted, her voice growing stronger. "But it's still my life. I can't live for your expectations anymore. I need you to accept who I am and who I love."
For a moment, silence filled the room, thick with tension. Aanya's heart raced as she braced herself for their response.
Finally, her mother sighed, her shoulders sagging in resignation. "We just want to protect you, Aanya. We're scared of what the world will think."
"I get that, but I need to live my truth," Aanya said, her heart pounding. "I want to be happy, and Meera is a part of that happiness."
Her father sighed deeply, rubbing his temples as if trying to ease a headache. "We'll need time to process this."
Aanya felt a mixture of relief and disappointment. "I understand. But I hope you'll try to understand us too."
