I get there just in time. The ring is packed, filled to the brim with all the people competing. The stone steps wrap around the circle. Above the entrance where the contestants come out is a balcony where the nobility watch the fight.
The first march of the competition since the beginning of time has always been so packed. When the King did this 10 years ago, Ryan dragged me and Archer over. I lost Ryan four times while getting home because of it. I am brought back to reality when I hear a loud horn blaze, signaling the start in 5 minutes. I look around trying to find Archer. Scanning the crowd I see him taking to the kind in the balcony. I walk over to them squeezing through people left and right going up the stairs. I reach them and overhear a slight bit of their conversation.
"... Yeah I can understand the hesitation. It is a lot to take on, especially being the first on the team. That can definitely give her some trouble making the right choice for herself." King Huarwar says to Archer.
"Yea, I just think she hasn't had very many of these opportunities and needs to think this over. I do believe she will make the right call for herself. I believe in her and support her choices. She has always been a role model for me."
"Really I always thought it was your older brother that was a role model?"
"Not really, I mean yes sure he's the oldest and he makes sure we are protected and fed but in reality, he is just like everyone else," Archer says as he gets into story mode. "But El-"
"But Elise what?" I put in before he can continue his sentence.
"Oh hey sis, I was just saying how much I love you," Archer says as he goes to wrap his arms around me.
"No," I say as I shrug his arms off me. "Hello King Huarwar. How are you?"
"I am good Elise. How are you?" King Huarwar chuckles at Archer. "Have you thought at all about my proposal last night?" He tilts his head.
I smile wide when he asks, "I did. I have deci-" The horn interrupts me. This time signalling the start of the fight.
With a look of irritation, "Hold that thought. I just have to give an announcement." Huarwar walks out onto the balcony where everyone can see him. The people all stand and turn going deathly silent. It is quiet for a few seconds as I see the King contemplates how he wants to start. His eyes swept all around the people. "Welcome one and all for coming," He says in a booming voice. "I am glad you all could make it to the start of the competition. For today's first fight will be Droloff Wyny against Ryan Ralphye." The ring claps in excitement. "The fight will go for one round, the one that doesn't get up in the end loses. Every keep to your seats and enjoy the show." Everyone sits down looking and waiting. Ancios for this to start.
The drums start back up at a quick pace, and the people start clapping with them. All of a sudden I see a man built like a brick wall run out to the middle of the ring. He is wearing a leather shirt and pants. He has no weapons on him but he looks as if he is the most powerful being in the world. Then Ryan comes out in the same year looking drastically smaller. Archer and I scream our lungs out cheering for him. He turns and looks right at me. He looks sad and disappointed in himself. I worry that something is wrong.
I mouth to him, "Is everything ok?" The second I ask Ryan turns away. I look to Archer to see if he knows but Archer is just so happy to be watching the first fight that he doesn't notice.
"Let the fight begin!!!!!" King Huarwar bellows out. Everyone goes deathly silent.
