"Were you going to start dinner without me?" I hear a voice coming from behind me. I turn around and see those deep blue eyes. His blonde hair ruffled like he just got out of a shower.
I turn my head away and roll my eyes, "Yes, you dumb ass. You were late what did you expect? We were going to wait forever for you. I'm sorry but I am hungry." I say to myself. I don't know why but Favin gets on my nerves like crazy. He acts like the world is his to control when really he is the only one who shouldn't be controlling it.
"Yes, we were. Why were you late?"Huarwar asked with a roll of his eye. It seems to me that he has the same feeling I do about his son.
Favin walks around the table and sits down across from me. He looks at me as Ryan and Huarwar start talking about the tournament. Favin stars at me and I star back. "What is he thinking? He's such an arrogant prick, I mean who makes people wait to eat? Asswhole" I think to myself. I hear my name and turn my head. Everybody was looking at me. "What?" I say worried I did something wrong.
"Oh, I was just wondering if you were going to fight in the tournament. You are very welcome to if you would like." Huarwar said.
I was bewildered. No woman has ever been a part of the king's knights. "I thought that wasn't aloud?" I question. I never really thought about it. "I mean why would I want to be a part of the knights? I would be good at it but would I like it?" I think to myself before Huarwar could respond.
"Well, it is true no woman has ever been in the knights I don't see why you couldn't join if you were able to beat the others in the battle." He says.
"Um. Well. I don't know." I stutter.
"It's quite alright you don't have to decide now but you will have to decide before tomorrow night so I can get you in the schedule. Is that alright Elise?"
"That is great. Thank you so much." I thank. Just as I look down at my hands a little overwhelmed. I hear a door open and close then heels clicking on the floor coming closer to the table. I look up and see a beautiful woman. She has dark brown hair that surrounds her slender face. Her eyes are a light shade of blue. Like the sky right after the sun comes over a hill. She is dressed in a beautiful gown that looks very comfortable.
"Ayn dear. How was your meeting with the generals?" Huawar asks. Smiling like his whole entire world just walked through the door.
Ayn slumps in her chair, "It was exhausting. I mean why can't you do the meeting every once in a while." She says while stretching her neck.
"Because my dear every time I try you say and I quote, 'How dare you think I can't do this. If you can take care of this whole nation I think I can take care of a few generals." Huawar says trying to mimic his wife's voice and failing.
Ayn laughs a beautiful sound that echoes through the dining room. Both Archer and Ryan chuckle along. I feel a shifting in my pocket and look down to see Mad sticking his tiny mouse head out. I didn't even realize he was in there. "how in the hell did he get in there, when did he get in there?" I ask myself. I give him a look to tell him to get back in there and shut up. Not that he was making any noise so maybe it was a stay still look. I had no more time to think about that because when I looked up I again saw Favin staring right at me.
He smirks and opens his mouth as if to ask me a question when his mother beats him to it. "Elise my dear, you look amazing in that dress. I was just wondering where you might have gotten it. I would love to have one just like it." Ayn asks with a pleasant smile.
I look over to my brothers and see they are talking with Huawar about how the fights are going. I quickly look back to Ayn and say, "Well I don't quite remember you see I got this dress when I was just a child and it never really fit till a few years ago when I stopped growing."
She hummed in response, "Well you look amazing in it."
"Thank you," I say trying to get away from the conversation. I used to go to parties with Blair to help her get a husband but I never had to talk to anyone I just sat there and watched. Maybe dance by myself or with someone but never really talked to anyone. Let alone have a full-on conversation with the queen of a nation.
The queen was about to say something when many servants came in holding plates and bowls and dishes smelling amazing. The severents put all the food on the table and uncovered them. My mouth dropped open. I had never in my life seen so much food. Not even at Blair's parties. I turn to Archer and Ryan and see their faces are in the same state. On this table right now there is enough food to feed our entire family for at least a year if not longer. The family in front of us just starts to eat like it's nothing in the world. I am amazed.
Archer turns to me and asks with his eyes, "Are you seeing this?"
" Yes, are you?"
"Of course, I'm seeing this."
"Does Ryan see it?" We both turn to Ryan.
He looks up and says with his eyes, "Of course, you dummies I see this. Just act natural and eat your food. It will be fine in the end." He looms down in the end so we can't talk to him.
Archer looks at me and asks, "What do we do now."
"I guess we just eat and play along. I don't know." I look down at my food. It looks amazing and I dig in. There was a big beef steak on the plate with a side of potatoes. There is roasted chicken on a plate in the middle with all the different things surrounding it.
I silently dig in while everybody at the table talks to each other. I look around at Huawar, Ayn, and Favin not even blinking at how much food is on the table. By their charm, I was almost forgetting why I hate royals so much. They are so full of themselves, they think this much food is normal but if they would only go down into the city and see all the starving men and women maybe they would understand but I doubt it. Trying to overcome this sudden burst of anger and cool myself down I look towards Archer and Ryan. I watch as Archer and Ryan both laugh like when they kid playing knights, they really belong here in the palace having this much fun. I almost forgot how their smile looked. I hear my name and turn to Favin. "Yes?"
"I was wondering if you would like a tour of the palace?" He smiles as he says. He stares into my eyes like he's trying to find something. "After of course, you're done eating."
"Sure," I say and go back to eating. I do want a tour, this place is beautiful, and it would be a shame not to see it. I eat quickly but not too fast to draw attention. I hear a chuckle and look up. I see Favin doing the same with a smile on his face.
