The sun spilled golden light into our home, casting a warm glow over everything it touched. I watched as Yeonji, bubbling with energy, got ready for her first day of school. Her laughter echoed through the halls as she twirled in front of the mirror, her new outfit—a bright, cheerful dress adorned with colorful butterflies making her look like a ray of sunshine."Are you ready, Yeonji?" I called from the kitchen, where I was preparing a special breakfast. I had made her favorite pancakes, drizzled with honey and topped with fresh fruits.
"Almost, Mommy!" Yeonji shouted back, her voice filled with glee. "I just need to find my sparkly shoes!"
I smiled to myself, watching the clock tick closer to our departure time. Today was a significant step for Yeonji, and I wanted everything to be perfect. Jungwon entered the kitchen, a wide grin on his face as he caught sight of his niece's enthusiasm.
"Good morning, Jieun! Is Yeonji ready yet?" he asked, pouring himself a cup of coffee.
"Almost there! She's just looking for her shoes. I hope she can find them soon," I replied, setting the table.
Just then, my mother walked in, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I can't believe it's already here! My little Yeonji is starting school today! I'm so proud of her!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with warmth.
"Me too, Mom. She's been looking forward to this day for weeks," Jungwon added, his tone reflecting his pride.
Finally, Yeonji appeared, wearing her sparkly shoes and looking every bit the excited little girl she was. "Look at my shoes, everyone!" she announced proudly, lifting her foot high in the air.
"They're beautiful, Yeonji!" I praised, kneeling down to give her a hug. "You're going to make so many friends today!"
Yeonji beamed, her face lighting up with joy. "And I'll tell them all about grandma and uncle wonie!"
After breakfast, we headed toward the door, Yeonji skipping in front of us. I felt a swell of pride as I watched my daughter's innocent joy. We piled into Jungwon's car, and as he started the engine, Yeonji clapped her hands in delight.
"Can we listen to my favorite song?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
"Of course!" Jungwon replied, turning up the volume as the familiar tune filled the car. We sang along, the atmosphere light and cheerful, laughter spilling out as we harmonized poorly but enthusiastically.
Upon arriving at the school, Jungwon parked the car, and we all stepped out, Yeonji's excitement bubbling over. She clutched her backpack tightly, its bright colors matching her outfit.
