Aanya's relationship with Rohan had grown into something deeper, something all-consuming. Each time they were together, he had a way of enveloping her in a world that felt apart from everything else, a cocoon where she was the only one who mattered. And though his attention was intoxicating, there were moments, small and fleeting, that made her feel slightly off-balance.

On one such evening, Rohan invited her to a secluded spot on the outskirts of the city, a place with a panoramic view of glittering city lights beneath a blanket of stars. As they sat close, Rohan's hand wrapped protectively around her shoulders, she felt a surge of warmth and affection.

"I'm glad we're here," Aanya whispered, leaning her head against his chest. "It's like the rest of the world doesn't exist."

Rohan's fingers traced gentle patterns on her arm, his eyes fixed on her with a look that felt as endless as the night sky. "When I'm with you, Aanya, nothing else matters. I've waited a long time to feel like this." He paused, his tone deepening as his fingers brushed her cheek. "To feel like I've found... my missing piece."

His words sent a thrill through her, mingling with a trace of something else she couldn't quite identify. "Rohan," she murmured, reaching up to stroke his cheek, "I feel the same. It's like you just showed up out of nowhere, my 'ideal stranger,' rescuing me when I needed it most."

Rohan smiled at her words, but it was a smile with an edge. "Sometimes fate has a way of aligning things, don't you think? Maybe this was meant to happen all along."

There was something in his voice that made her pause—a note of certainty, almost as though he had known from the beginning that they would end up here. Aanya tried to shake off the feeling, but as he pulled her closer, his lips capturing hers in a kiss that stole her breath, the doubts faded into nothingness.

Their connection grew, each kiss and each touch feeling as though they were creating their own language, their own world. But just as she felt herself slipping into that blissful haze, her phone buzzed with a message.

  It was from Raj.

Just checking in. Hope you're safe, Aanya.

She read the message, and a pang of guilt washed over her. She hadn't told Raj about this evening, hadn't shared the details of her growing closeness with Rohan. Part of her worried that he wouldn't understand, or worse, that he would judge her.

"What is it?" Rohan's voice broke into her thoughts, his gaze sharp as he noticed the look on her face.

"It's just Raj," Aanya said with a slight shrug, putting her phone away. "He likes to check in on me."

Rohan's jaw tightened imperceptibly. "Raj seems to check in on you a lot."

There was a flicker of something unreadable in his expression, a momentary darkening that disappeared as quickly as it had come. Aanya brushed it off, convincing herself that it was only natural for Rohan to feel a bit possessive.

"It's just how he is," she explained, resting a reassuring hand on Rohan's arm. "Raj has always been protective. He's just... well, he's always been there for me."

Rohan leaned in closer, his voice barely more than a whisper. "I'm here for you now, Aanya. I'd do anything to protect you. Raj doesn't need to worry about you anymore." His fingers tightened slightly on her shoulder, the possessiveness in his touch unmistakable.

The next day, as Aanya went about her routine, she noticed things that felt oddly out of place. An open drawer she was certain she'd closed, a faint scent of cologne lingering in her hallway that wasn't hers, or Rohan's for that matter. She tried to tell herself it was nothing, but a lingering unease gnawed at her.

When she ran into Raj later that afternoon, he seemed quiet, almost pensive.

"You've been distant," she said gently, studying his face. "Is everything okay?"

Raj looked at her for a long moment, as though debating whether to say what was on his mind. "I'm worried about you, Aanya. Really worried."

She sighed, feeling the tension between them. "Raj, I'm fine. I'm happy. You don't need to worry so much."

"But I do," he insisted, his gaze intense. "Rohan... there's something about him that doesn't sit right with me. It's like he's keeping you all to himself, isolating you."

Aanya frowned, brushing his concerns aside. "Raj, I know you're just being protective, but Rohan's good to me. He's kind, attentive. He's everything I could want."

"Is he?" Raj's voice softened, but there was a sadness in his eyes. "Or is he just the 'ideal' stranger you've always been looking for?"

The words struck a chord, and for a moment, she felt herself falter. But she quickly recovered, forcing a smile. "He's exactly who he says he is, Raj. And I trust him."

Raj sighed, looking away. "I just hope you're right, Aanya. I'd hate to see you hurt."

That evening, as Aanya lay in bed, Raj's words replayed in her mind. Part of her wanted to ignore them, to cling to the happiness she felt with Rohan. But the other part, the part that remembered those odd moments—the misplaced items, the faint feeling of being watched—felt a chill that lingered long after the lights had gone out.

In the dim glow of her room, she looked over at her nightstand and noticed a new item: a small locket she didn't remember placing there. She picked it up, inspecting it closely. It was delicate, beautiful in a haunting way, with an engraving of her initials intertwined with an unfamiliar script.

A sudden thought gripped her—a memory of Rohan mentioning his grandmother's jewelry, that he sometimes liked to gift pieces he'd "saved" from his family's collection.

But he hadn't given her this. Or had he? She tried to remember but couldn't recall him ever presenting it to her. She felt a wave of unease, almost as if the locket was watching her back, mocking her sudden uncertainty.

That night, as she drifted off to sleep, the whisper of Raj's words lingered in her mind: "I just hope you're right, Aanya."
