TWENTY - NINE
QUEEN & GHOST
GALVESTON BAY, TEXAS

TREVANTE RHODES WAS SOMEONE BEYONCE had practically grown up with. They became friends when they were children and they always attended Youth Sunday together. After she left to pursue her career, she never saw him again. That was until tonight of course. She almost couldn't believe he was the same person. The last time she saw him he was a scrawny prepubescent boy with braces and now? Now, he smiled with a certain twinkle in his eyes, his teeth were perfectly straight, and he stood with aura of confidence and charm. She almost couldn't believe it.

"Wow, you look incredible."

"Thank you." She smiled before confusion settled on her features. She wanted to ask how he was even here exactly because she would have known if his name was on the guest list. Upon seeing her confusion, he chuckled. "Alan invited me last minute when he learned I would be in Houston for the weekend."

"That makes sense. How have you been? How long has it been? Like 15 years?"

"Yeah, something like that." Trevante adjusted the cuff links on his suit. Even though she continued chatting with him, she still found herself glancing at Onika and Trey. She wasn't the type to get jealous but there was something off about them. She hadn't left Trey's side since and she was still talking to him and his friends while Robyn and Normani sang some karaoke.

"You're in Houston until Monday?" She faced away from Trey, granting her full attention to Trevante.

"Yes, and then I go back to Philly." He said, allowing his eyes to trail up and down her body. He soon pulled out his business card and handed it to her. "I've been seeing some videos about your concert. I wanted to congratulate you and when your tour comes to Philly, we should catch up."

Beyonce stayed silent and it was only then she realized he was flirting with her. Before she could politely reject, the karaoke song ended and everyone clapped. She faced the stage again, and she instantly connected eyes with Trey who looked between her and Trevante. His gaze was cold, his jawline clenched and a crease formed in between his eyebrows. She felt a shiver travel through her body and it felt as if she had to manually start breathing. Everyone else on the yacht disappeared and they seemed to be the only people on the boat.

"For the next song, We're nominating Trey!" Normani said and Trey ripped his eyes away from her. "Here we fucking go."

"Trey, get yah ass up here! You've gat one of the best voices I've heard and I won't allow yuh to hide it."

"Yeah, I think it would be fun. I love his voice. It's like the perfect voice for R&B." Normani backed Robyn up, who placed her hands on her hips. Dave and Keith practically pushed him up on the small stage before he was handed the microphone. "Why y'all keep doing this to me."

"Because it's fun. Now, shut your ass up and sing." Dave said. Trey rolled his eyes. "What should I sing?"

"What about the new song you just wrote."

"Only if y'all do it with me. Keith, you sing the second verse and Dave, you'll rap."

"Why would-."

"It'll add a lot to the song and y'all know the verses better than anyone. Come on."

"Fine." Keith agreed and Dave sighed. Trey pulled out his phone, chatting with the DJ. Eventually, the instrumental began to play, bringing the life back to the party.
