Encounter with Ravana

During the same time there was a son of sage vishrava who was the son of great sage Pulatsya who married Rakshasi Kaikasi and begot multiple children in which most prominent are their eldest child Dashanan (who is named after being born with 10 heads), kumbhkaran (who was very large in size) vibhishan (was knowledgeable and devoted to  gods) and Surphanaka.

Their eldest child Dashanan used to live with his maternal grandfather Sumali who was one of the prominent rakshasa and was the great grandson of Maharishi Kashyap and used to hate gods and also wanted kubera who was son half brothers of dashanan to be drive out of Lanka.

He wanted his maternal grandson to become powerful and to defeat is own half brother kubera and become king of Lanka.

Ravana under the tutelage of Sage Pulatsya and Sage Shukracharya became a great Warrior in Demons and was crowned by his maternal grandfather as the king of rakshasas.

The ultimate goal of Dushasan was to dethrone his half brother from the throne and become king of Lanka.

For this he did the penance of Lord Brahma to get a boon from him and offered his 9 heads to Lord Brahma when he was going to sacrifice is 10th head then Lord Brahma appeared before him and asked his desired boon.

Dashanan asked a boon of invincibility which was rejected by Lord Brahma then dashanan cleverly asked a boon in which he would be undefeatable against Devas Asuras Nagas Gandharvas Kinnars Yakshas Pishachas powerful spirits and wild animals but he forget to mention humans and vanars.

Lord Brahma gave dashanan his desired boon. With this boon he attacked Lanka and drove out his half brother Kuber and his entire yaksha clan and tookk his personal Pushpak viman.

They can't do anything to Dashanan because of the boon of Brahma. He became king of Lanka and in order to make his dominance on others he started to fight with other warriors.

He defeated many powerful Kings such as King Puru, King Yayati, King Dushyant and also killed Ikshvaku King Anaranya, he also defeated many Nagas Gandharvas,Kings and Pishachas residing in other parts of the world.

He was very arrogant in nature and considered himself undefeated he also did many atrocities on women and other weaker people.

He was very lustful towards women and if any women decline his proposal then he considered it has his insult and used to rape them.

His atrocities on women made a huge list he even did atrocities on those people who were weaker than him.

But no one could do anything to him because he was very powerful and others were scared to even face him.

With that arrogance when he was flying with his Pushpak Viman he saw Kailash Parvat and realised that he was unable to cross the mountain.

Then that arrogant demon lifted the Kailash Parvat after seeing the arrogance of that demon he touched the mountain with his toe which increased the weight of that mountain so much that his feet were pressed under the mountain and he was unable to take out his foot.

On the advice of Nandi he did several penances of Lord Mahadev and invented Shiv Tandav Stotram to please Lord Mahadev.

After years of his Tapasya Lord Mahadev finally was pleased and he along with Mata Parvati gave their Darshan to him.
