Maya's room

I could hear the clamor of the people outside. The slum is messy, but I find it comforting in a way because everyone here seems awake the whole night. No one sleeps.

Even Naya already has friends.

I stared at the mug I bought from the antique shop. It was broken, but still beautiful. It may not be the appearance, but the wisdom it keeps.

I am always lost by the beauty of old things.

I looked upon the window. The sky is too quiet and peaceful. I am not the sky and so everything in me is chaotic and filled with never-ending wars.

"Don't worry, no one will know. Unless those brats mess up your plans!"

I could feel the irritation in Luna's tone as she stared at Kim and her two sidekicks strutting toward us, heads held high. They probably thought everyone was watching them—when in fact, all eyes were on the players.

"Why?" I asked, my brows furrowing.

"Remember when you left for the rooftop? They were talking about how rich that brat is, how much money Kim's parents make every day, and how many businesses they own!"

"And?"

"You too!" she huffed, pointing at me, which only deepened my confusion.

But slowly, her words sank in.

"Me too? They talked about me?"

"Of course! Then your friends went on bragging about how many businesses your family has. That triggered her. She's ultra-competitive—doesn't want to lose, won't stand being outdone, always has to be on top. Just like you. Anyway, I gotta go, I have another task!"

She left with a smile, so I just nodded and smiled back, waiting until she disappeared from sight before turning my attention to Kim and her sidekicks, now chatting with the Dare Lions players.

Fast move, of course, she's got her sights set on Isaac.

I took a deep breath, grabbed a pitcher of water from the bench for the players, and started walking their way.

Am I really that competitive? Maybe Luna has a point; everything she said struck a chord. Not wanting to lose, refusing to be outdone, and always aiming to be on top—that's how I protect myself from being trampled on by anyone.

I also need to silence Kim so she won't have any more reasons to expose my true life. But how?

As Luna mentioned, Kim is ultra-competitive, so she won't back down. She'll keep fighting, with those annoying sidekicks of hers right by her side.

I hadn't even made it to the players when someone blocked my path. As expected, it was Kim and her crew. And because I was so lost in thought, I didn't notice them, ending up bumping right into her and splashing water onto my shirt.

"Excuse me?" Kim's sharp voice cut through the air. I looked up at her, and since she was a bit taller than me, I had to step back a little to see her fully.

I raised an eyebrow.

"Excuse you! There's plenty of space here, yet you chose to walk right in my path? Nice one!"
