"What in the actual fuck is this?", Mason yelled at BK on the phone.
"What do you mean?", BK asked, as if clueless.
"You haven't checked the information? The job chief assigned to me? It's literally asking me to investigate the family members of George Bardin!!! Is this a joke, BK?", Mason shouted, in his study room.
"I did not know, honestly. I was told not to open the file. They handed me over the file the day you came back, before you came to work. An official from the headquarters came to gave it himself. There is no digital file of it.", BK lied.
"Well then, I know work protocols and I will not intervene with the chief's job. Ask them to take the file back and I will forget about it. They can hire someone else to do it.", Mason said.
"What do you mean? He chose you. I don't make the decisions. And it's better since you know everything. We need to save ourselves without any questions. Do you think he will leave you if say no?", BK said, now clearly afraid.
"So you are asking me to backstab them? And break their trust in me? You are suggesting me to take advantage of my relationship and do some illegal shit like this?", Mason said, almost out of breath.
"Your work is illegal, Mason. And since this is a personal thing the chief has asked for, I don't have a say in this.", BK said, his voice laced with fright and nervousness.
"Oh, yes. So it is this easy for you to throw me into a trap? Well, what can I expect from a man who made me do exactly the thing that he wanted me to do for his own benefit, making me think that's it's for my better future. Thank you, BK. I think I will sort this out myself.", Mason said and ended the call.
---
"Good job!", a deep voice said, lowering the gun from BK's head, "We will spare you if you keep your nose out of this from now on. Understood?"
BK nodded silently, staring at the short but bulked up man who delivered the file that day before Mason came to work. He was wearing a formal shirt and pants, making him look like just the average office clerk. But he, Jonathan, was the right hand man of the chief. And Jonathan never said no to the chief. He pocketed his gun and left BK, shaking and sweating in his apartment.
"BK is out of the scene, sir.", Jonathan said on the call.
"Okay, you move to the next plan as instructued. Let's hope the lad doesn't go and babble everything to them.", the chief said.
"He seems to be self-reliant, sir. He won't tell anything unless we corner him.", Jonathan said.
"Well then, if you think so. My orders stand as it is."
"Yes sir, I will update you.", Jonathan said, and ended the call.

Mason came out to his living room, threw the file on the coffee table and dropped down on the couch. This should not be happening. The chief should have known that Mason handled Excela 56's case, but he shouldn't have known about the rest. Did BK really know about it when he heard Brian say about how BK was worried about the chief tracking their whereabouts. Now his head was spinning again. He felt helpless. He couldn't even let Brian know lest they get to him. His phone rang loudly in the room, startling him. It was Russell. Mason picked up the call, reluctantly.
"Hey!", he said, trying to sound normal.
"Hi Maple! We are going for the shooting practice tomorrow, right?", Russell asked, oblivious.
