When Song Yingqing reached the first floor and stepped out of the elevator, he immediately spotted the manager.

Before he could speak, Sister Chen said, “The boss told me what happened on the third floor. Xiao Song, I know you were wronged but the boss said you can go home today, and your pay won’t be docked.”

Song Yingqing hadn’t expected such words.

A hint of surprise crossed his face, but he quickly composed himself and nodded. “Thank you, Sister Chen.”

Warmth spread through his chest, filling him with unexpected gratitude. He didn't think Nan Huaiyi would go into such detail to explain the situation to the manager.

After exchanging goodbyes with Sister Chen, he grabbed his backpack and left the bar.

It wasn't quite half past nine when he got back to the dorm. His roommates hadn't come back yet, so he was by himself at that hour.

Since it was rare for him to come back so early, he decided to tidy up. He gathered his laundry and put on a fresh set of sheets.

By the time he’d packed everything away and taken a shower, only an hour had passed.

He dried his hair, sat on his bed, read a few pages of a book, and then lay down. The light scent of the freshly laundered pillowcase and quilt cover helped him fall asleep.

Song Yingqing took a tiny doll that looked like Nan Huaiyi from under his pillow, gently poked its face, and placed it next to him before he closed his eyes.

“Good night,” he whispered.

He slept deeply, without dreams. The sky was still dark outside his window when he awoke the following morning.

He checked his phone: it was only 6:15.

Gradually coming awake, he stretched and yawned, noticing the little doll on his pillow. A faint smile curved his lips.

“Good morning,” he murmured.

After putting the doll away, he lifted the quilt, and got out of bed.

Looking at the bed beside his, he saw that Wang Xiangchen hadn’t returned. Xu Qi and Gao Yu, who slept opposite, were also missing.

After giving it some thought, he grabbed his phone and sent a message:

Song: Why didn’t you come back last night?

Song Yingqing held his phone up and waited for a response, but it never arrived.  Eventually, he set it aside, grabbed his washbasin, and went to freshen up.

By the time he finished his morning routine, there was still no response from Wang Xiangchen.

Not wanting to wait any longer, he headed to the cafeteria alone.

When he returned to the dorm after having a breakfast, he found Wang Xiangchen, Xu Qi, and Gao Yu had all come back.

He greeted Wang Xiangchen as usual. “You’re back. I brought you some breakfast—”

But before he could finish, Xu Qi, who was sitting on his bed, suddenly stood up and said to Wang Xiangchen and Gao Yu, “Let’s go. Let’s grab some breakfast together.”

After giving them a quick glance and nodded, Wang Xiangchen followed them. He smiled briefly as he went past Song Yingqing, but his demeanor felt distant and his eyes were evasive.

The dorm room door quickly shut behind them, leaving Song Yingqing momentarily stunned.

He took some time to settle into his seat.
