"Look at this place, it's exactly the same." The remark from a lady walking into the diner jolted Wren out of her daze as she stood waiting for the coffee that had been done for a couple minutes. Her, Robin and Jess had quickly been distracted and spent an hour and half talking and lounging upstairs in Luke's apartment so that they had to rush downstairs in time for her shift, sending Robin with the cash and a scribbled list to get the shopping, leaving her and Jess working in the diner.
"Actually, I made him paint it a few months ago." Lorelai was saying as Wren served the customers at the counter, ducking around Luke who was thumping at a toaster angrily.
"Well, good for you." The lady said and this time, Luke seemed to recognize her, grinning broadly and walking over to her. The small lady was enveloped into a hug as he greeted her cheerfully, "Mia hey!"
"Nice to see you Lucas." The lady laughed and Wren and Jess immediately shared an amused glance.
"You're the only person in the world who can call me that, Mia" Luke smiled.
"I know this."
"I'm saying it for others who plan to try it later."
Lorelai grinned, "Whatever Lucas."
"Mia, you know anything about toasters?"
"Not a damn thing."
"Well, then sit down and let me get you some coffee." Luke said and turned back to the counter as the two Gilmores and Mia sat down at a free table. Wren smiled meekly, holding up the now empty again coffee pot as he walked to get it, putting it on and watching him turn back to the toaster as he waited.
"You're making that worse." Jess commented, one side of Luke.
"Big help, thanks."
"Have you tried turning it on and off again?" Wren suggested quietly, smiling slightly as she stood the other side.
"Luke, that's your nephew?" Mia called out and all three people behind the counter turned to look at her.
"It's Liz's kid. Jess, this is Mia, she owns the Independence Inn." Luke introduced as he walked over and Jess nodded, staying put.
"Huh."
"That's 'Hello, nice to meet you' in slacker." Luke scoffed, much to Wren's amusement.
"You don't need me down here, do you?" Jess asked and started for the stairs before Luke answered, brushing past Wren with a secret smile.
"I'm sorry Mia. He's just-" Luke sighed, fed up.
Mia waved him off, "Oh please, forget it. You weren't exactly a talkative boy yourself when you were his age." Wren looked away from the group as she heard the coffee machine beep, grabbing the now full coffee pot and grabbing some mugs, heading over to the table.
