The sun peeked through Nobita’s bedroom window, casting a golden glow over his scattered books and half-finished homework. He stirred under the blanket, groaning as he slowly opened his eyes. His mind was still foggy from sleep
As he sat up, rubbing his eyes, Nobita realized something: for the first time in a long while, he didn’t feel as heavy. It wasn’t that all his problems had disappeared, but there was a lightness inside him, a sense of possibility he hadn’t felt in a long time.
“Maybe Dekisugi’s right,” Nobita muttered to himself. “Maybe I’m not as far behind as I think.”
A knock on his door interrupted his thoughts. “Nobita, breakfast is ready!” his mother called from the hallway.
“I’m coming!” Nobita replied, hopping out of bed and throwing on his clothes. He grabbed his school bag and hurried downstairs, the scent of miso soup and grilled fish greeting him as he entered the kitchen.
His parents were already seated at the table, and beside them was Doraemon, reading the morning paper with his usual calm demeanor.
“Morning, Nobita,” Doraemon said without looking up.
“Morning,” Nobita replied, sitting down and immediately digging into his breakfast.
His mother raised an eyebrow. “You’re in a good mood today. Did something happen?”
Nobita paused, his chopsticks halfway to his mouth. He thought about telling his parents about the night before, about how Dekisugi had made him feel more confident, but he decided against it. It wasn’t something he could easily explain—not yet, at least.
“I just had a good night,” Nobita said instead, smiling.
His mother smiled back, pleased to see him in high spirits. “Well, that’s good to hear.”
After breakfast, he grabbed his bag and headed out the door. The streets were already bustling with students making their way to class, but Nobita’s mind was elsewhere. His thoughts kept drifting back to the night before—the arcade, the walk home with Dekisugi, and that lingering warmth he felt every time Dekisugi smiled at him.
“Get it together, Nobita,” he muttered to himself, shaking his head. “It’s just Dekisugi. He’s always nice like that.”
But deep down, Nobita knew it was more than that. The way Dekisugi had defended him, encouraged him, and even treated him to ice cream—it all felt different. Nobita couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but there was something about Dekisugi’s kindness that left him feeling both flustered and comforted.
As they approached the school gates, Nobita Shizuka
"Hey, Shizuka!” Nobita called out, waving.
Shizuka turned and smiled brightly. “Good morning, Nobita! You’re in a good mood today.”
Nobita blushed a little, but before he could respond, Suneo and Gian appeared, walking up behind them.
“Well, well,” Suneo teased, a mischievous grin on his face. “Looks like someone had a good night’s sleep. What’s the occasion, Nobita?”
“Yeah, you’re unusually cheerful today,” Gian added, crossing his arms. “What’s up?”
Nobita shrugged, still smiling. “I just feel good. No big reason.”
Suneo and Gian exchanged a look, clearly intrigued by Nobita’s sudden burst of confidence, but they didn’t press the matter further.
As they entered the classroom, Nobita took his usual seat, still smiling. His friends exchanged glances, amused by his unusual energy, while Shizuka sat nearby, watching him with a hint of curiosity.
A few moments later, the door swung open, and in walked Dekisugi, accompanied by Shruti. Nobita’s smile faded slightly when he saw them together, but he quickly masked it, hoping no one would notice.
“Good morning, everyone!” Shruti greeted, giving a small wave as she settled into her seat.
“Morning, Shruti!” Shizuka replied warmly, while Nobita managed a faint wave.
Dekisugi gave him a warm smile, one that made Nobita’s heart skip a beat. “Morning, Nobita. Ready for the day?”
“Yep! I think today’s going to be a good one,” Nobita replied, his confidence surprising even himself.
Shizuka raised an eyebrow, glancing between Dekisugi and Shruti. "So, Dekisugi, how come you two arrived together?" she asked with a curious smile.
Dekisugi adjusted his bag and shrugged casually. "Oh, Shruti and I happened to bump into each other on the way here. She was going the same route, so we decided to walk together."
Nobita managed a smile, trying to ignore the slight pang of jealousy. Shruti and Dekisugi seemed to be hitting it off well, but he knew he shouldn’t let it bother him. He tried to hide it and quickly reached for his water bottle, taking a sip to distract himself.
Just then Suneo leaned in closer to Nobita, whispering with a playful teasing tone. “So, Nobita, do you think Shruti and Dekisugi have a thing going on?"
Nobita nearly choked on his water at Suneo’s question, coughing as he quickly set down the bottle. "W-what? No way! They just walked to school together, that’s all, Right? Dekisugi" he stammered, his cheeks turning a light shade of pink.
Dekisugi shot Suneo a glare but quickly masked it with a slightly smirk. clearly amused by Nobita’s reaction. "Relax, Nobita," he said with a chuckle. "Suneo’s just stirring things up as usual."
Shruti, oblivious to the tension, laughed along. "Yeah, Suneo! Don’t go spreading rumors just because we shared a walk. It’s nothing like that." She shot Nobita a reassuring smile, and he felt his shoulders relax.
Suneo snickered, nudging Gian. "I don’t know… Nobita’s acting a little suspiciously defensive. What do you think, Gian?"
Gian shrugged, raising an eyebrow at Nobita. "Maybe he’s just worried Shruti’s gonna steal his study buddy."
Nobita’s face flushed even deeper as he fumbled for words, glancing between his friends."Stop it, you two! It’s nothing like that," he insisted, his voice louder than he intended. A few classmates turned to look, and Nobita quickly ducked his head,
embarrassed.Dekisugi stepped in, giving Suneo and Gian a mild look. "Come on, guys, cut him some slack. Nobita’s been in a great mood today, and you're just trying to throw him off."
As Dekisugi took his seat beside Nobita, Nobita felt a sense of relief. He glanced at Dekisugi, who gave him a small comforting smile.
