Today, I asked Jay to go to school together.
"Why did you suddenly invite me to school together today? I usually only see you alone."
I felt embarrassed, put my hand behind my nape, and replied:
"Ah... today I just suddenly missed you so I invited you out here to join me. Is there any problem?"
I said that just to pretend, but my real purpose is clear as day.
"No, it just feels strange. You're not usually like this."
Jay said with a laugh.
I immediately thought of a few other conversations to distract and slowly led Jay into the main topic of conversation.
"By the way, do you know what Yulia's current job is?"
" Yulia? "
He thought for a moment and then said.
"I think she's working part-time at a Starbucks near her house right now"
" Hmm "
I continued to throw questions at Jay while I could.
"Do you know how much she makes a month?"
"What does she want to do with her dream in the future?"
Jay replied awkwardly:
"Well... Salary is probably around $625 a month."
"Her dream... I don't know about that either."
"Why are you asking me so much about her today?"
I was startled when Jay asked and started to fumble.
" Well... Uh.. I'm just curious!"
Jay chuckled and said to me in a mocking tone.
"You're a pretty bad liar, Dmitri."
"Tell me the truth. Do you like her?"
My face turned red, I didn't know how to answer. What if Jay also liked her, what would happen to our friendship? While hesitating, Jay said to me.
"Just tell me the truth, I'm not mad at you no matter what."
Hearing that, I immediately replied.
"Um... Well, I like Yulia, or rather, I'm attracted to her."
