———————————————————————————The officers notice the exhaustion etched on your face and decide that the best thing for you right now is to get some rest. They drive you home, offering gentle reassurances along the way and reminding you to come to the station in the morning to file a full report.
When you finally arrive, one of the officers helps you out of the car and walks you to your door. "Get some sleep," he says kindly. "If you need anything we're only one call away, and we'll make sure you're safe."
With a nod of gratitude, you head inside, finally allowing yourself to feel the weight of everything that's happened. As you sink into your bed, you know that tomorrow, things might start to turn around. For now, though, sleep calls, offering a moment of peace after a long, chaotic day.
You wake up to the blaring noise from your phone and notice it's a phone call. Startled by the call, you sit up and listen as the officer explains that when they arrived back at the scene, it was completely empty. There were no signs of anyone who'd been there, nor any trace of the struggle that had taken place.
"We're continuing to investigate, but it's like they just vanished," he says, his voice edged with frustration.
The line goes quiet as you try to process this. You thank the officer, and sit in the darkness, a chill running down your spine. The thought of them still out there—watching, planning—makes you uneasy. But you also feel a spark of determination. If they wanted to scare you, they'd have to try harder than that so you asked the police officer that you feel uneasy and ask for a ride to a friends house.
The officer hesitates for a moment, then agrees. "Of course, we can arrange for that," he says, his tone reassuring. "Just give us the address, and we'll be there shortly."
You quickly grab a few essentials, feeling a strange mix of relief and tension. After you share the address, they assure you they'll arrive soon. The officer then asks, "Is there anyone we should contact in the meantime?"
You think of your friends and what little rest they're probably getting after all that's happened. Part of you doesn't want to worry them, but you feel grateful knowing you won't be facing this alone tonight so you tell them her name, number and address.
The officer nods, taking down Mira's number and saying he'll give her a call to let her know what's going on. As you wait, the silence in your home feels heavier than ever, and you can't help but glance around, hoping this will soon just be a memory.
Soon after, you hear a car pull up outside, and there's a knock at your door. You exhale, relieved, as the officer escorts you to the car. He mentions that Mira is expecting you and offers a few words of reassurance as you settle in for the short drive to her place.
As soon as Mira sees you, she rushes over, wrapping her arms tightly around you. You cling to her, finally letting everything you've been holding in come pouring out. She murmurs softly, reassuring you as she leads you inside, offering a comforting presence.
Mira helps you sit down, bringing you some water as you start to calm down. She sits beside you, holding your hand and promising that you're safe here. After a while, you begin to feel the weight lifting, grateful to have someone who cares by your side.
Mira listens intently, her expression shifting from shock to concern as you recount everything that happened. When you finish, she's silent for a moment, processing it all.
"Are you serious?" she finally asks, her voice barely a whisper. "This sounds like something out of a nightmare... You've been through so much, and I didn't even know." She squeezes your hand, determination flashing in her eyes. "We'll figure this out together. You're not alone in this."
Her words offer a small but significant comfort, grounding you in a way you hadn't felt in a long time.
