"Honey, Tadgh, wake up! It's time for school," Edel's voice roused me from my slumber. Even after half a year, I still can't believe how quickly my life has changed. The Kavanaghs have saved us from the living hell we once called home. Edel Kavanagh has a heart of gold; I don't think anyone other than her could possess the same kindness , she took all five of us in: Joey, Shannon, Ollie, Sean, and me. Somehow, it seems like she genuinely enjoys having us around, and taking care of five strangers, feeding them, and providing a roof over their heads has become her responsibility. She has been the loving mother we never had, and John Kavanagh has been the caring father that piece of shit couldn't be. I couldn't be more grateful.

A knock on my door brought me back to reality. "Hey, Tadgh," Aoife said as she leaned against the door, holding AJ on her hip.Heyy, how's my favorite nephew in the world?" I asked, outstretching my hand. Aoife approached, handing me AJ, who started giggling when I tickled him."Edel says you should head downstairs for breakfast," Aoife told me."Yea, ok, thanks for telling me," I replied, smiling at her and handing AJ back. They both left, shutting the door behind them. I slumped back onto my bed, staring at the ceiling. It's astonishing how swiftly things can change, how swiftly you can lose someone, and how deeply that loss can hurt you. Our mother's presence now, even after her passing, seems to have more of an impact than when she was alive.I got out of bed, went to the bathroom, and had a quick shower. Then, I headed to the walk-in closet, taking out the St. Tomman's uniform. I stared at the blazer, wondering why on earth kids have to wear blazers for school. I'll be dead before anyone finds me wearing a blazer. I put on my pants and the shirt, leaving the last two buttons unbuttoned, and threw on my tie because I don't know how to tie it properly.

As I headed downstairs, I ruffled Sookie on the head as she followed me. Upon reaching the kitchen, the aroma of freshly cooked breakfast filled the air. Edel stood at the stove, flipping pancakes with a warm smile on her face. "Good morning, Tadgh," she greeted me cheerfully. "Have a seat, and I'll hand you some pancakes." Edel with no question is the best cook ever "thanks dellie " she leans down and kisses me on the cheek "no problem love " I continue eating my pancakes and suddenly Johnny's voice comes " maaaa what have you done "walking in through the kitchen door Johnny is wearing his tommen which is supposed to be a full shirt but now is a cropped shirt that is so tight I don't understand how he is still breathing , I couldn't help but start laughing so hard I got knocked out of the kitchen stool "nahh lad don't worry it looks good on you ,shows all the muscles" I say as I start laughing so hard I couldn't breathe "oh love I'm so sorry I got a extra shirt in you're closet it's behind you're jackets"Johnny nods to his mom and glares at me and I strart snicker"shut the fuck up you Eejit " I laugh harder "Jonathon language "Edel comes from behind him hitting him on the head "but ma he was ... you know what I don't care"he stormed off to his room muttering something about unfairness , I continued eating my food when suddenly Ollie entered the room "dellieeee where is my plate " he said smiling at her, then out of no where ,John,Came from behind him and tossed him over his shoulder "hey kid " Ollie started laughing "hey John ".walking over to Edel with my brother over his shoulder John dipped his head and kissed edel "good morning sweetheart " he said smiling at her , and I wondered not for the first time how did it feel that Johnny grew up in house where his parents loved each other, because not once In my almost 13 years of life I've seen dad look at mam the way John looked at Edel ,never seen him smile at her the way John smiled at edel ,"Tadgh move please " Shannon's voice got me back ."yea sure sorry"I scramble to the left so Shannon can get the thing she wanted from the kitchen island,I seem to get so lost in my mind now a days and I'm getting tired of it.
