As we sat at the hurling table, waiting for James to come over. He'd been gone for the first four periods for his tour—the lucky bastard left me alone for whole four periods! Finally, when he entered through the door, he wasn't alone. Behind him was a girl I'd never seen before. She must be the new girl.

They continued talking until they finally reached our table. In the most dramatic way, James clapped his hands. "Attention please, princess is going to sit with us every day until we leave this goddamn school, got it?" Everyone nodded and clapped their hands, staring at her, but she didn't look anyone in the eye. She just kept staring at the ground, her brown hair falling like a curtain hiding her face. I couldn't see anything until she raised her head. She caught me staring at her and looked the other way so fast.

My best friend started talking again. "So let me introduce you to the lads and ladies of our group. This tiny red one is Bridget." Bridget was staring at the girl with awe in her eyes.

"Omg heyyy, how are you? Wait, aren't you the model?" she asked.

Sitting next to her was Ciara, looking at the model girl from head to toe, but the look on her face wasn't judgy. No, she had a curious look, as if she was trying to solve a puzzle.

"And this is Ciara. Be careful, she bites," James said, pointing at the blonde.

"Oh, fuck off." She gave James the middle finger and turned to the new girl. "Hey, it's nice to meet you," she smiled at her, and model girl gave her a small smile. Doesn't she have a name?

"And this scowling face is Tadgh Lynch, my best mate." James pointed at me. New girl looked at me this time, and I stared back at her. We held eye contact for five seconds, and then she turned away.

"This is Nolan. He's just a dumb ass, so ignore him. And this is me," he said, pointing at himself, "the coolest, hottest guy in this school." To my surprise, the new girl laughed.

"Fun fact, JJ, you haven't told us her name yet," Bridget told him with a smile.

"It's not as if you don't know her. I bet half of the guys have posters with her face on them," he answered.

"I don't know her name," I said with a firm tone, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Well, my dear friend, her name is—"

"My name is Mona," she said, staring at me with no way to know what she's feeling. Her face was calm, no emotion showing on it.

"Well, nice to meet you, Mona." I extended my hand to give her a handshake. She looked at my hand, ignored me, and turned, mumbling something to James before she left. Everyone was staring, then started howling and cracking up.

"Oh my god, I love this girl," said Ciara, as she tried but failed to stop laughing.

The thing that surprised me was I wasn't mad about what she did. No, for some reason, I was grinning like some crazy person.

"Don't take it personally, Lynch, it's not you. She just likes talking to cool people like me," James stated as he sat in the empty chair next to me.

As everyone continued talking, I couldn't help but stare at the place she'd been standing. This year is going to be interesting for sure.
