Nagi's POV:
"Look, there's just no contest," Reo said, leaning forward, his face dead serious. "Strawberry is the superior flavor. It's got sweetness, a little bit of tang. Total perfection."
Ryouta scoffed, shaking his head dramatically. "Strawberry? Seriously? That's like... flavor training wheels. Now, mint chocolate chip? That's a flavor with character! It's refreshing, it's got texture—it's practically the MVP of ice creams!"
Reo shot him a look. "Mint chocolate chip? You mean toothpaste with chunks? Seriously, that's food? Just brush your teeth and be done with it."
I glanced up, half-wondering if debating ice cream flavors was worth the battery life I was losing just listening.
"First off" Ryouta began, pointing a finger, "if your toothpaste tastes like mint chocolate chip, you're brushing your teeth wrong. Secondly it's a refreshing experience. It's like each bite has a little adventure"
"Adventure? You mean like the adventure of regretting your choices?" Reo shot back, snickering.
"Oh, I see how it is," Ryouta said with an exaggerated sigh, clutching his chest like he'd been wounded. "I didn't realize I was talking to an amateur ice cream connoisseur. It's okay, not everyone can appreciate the finer things in life"
They both turned to me, suddenly intent. "Alright, Nagi," Reo said, giving me a nudge. "You're the deciding vote. Which is it: strawberry or mint chocolate chip?"
I blinked, glancing between the two of them and wondering how my life choices had led to this moment. "...Vanilla," I mumbled, hoping they'd let me get back to my game. "Less effort to think about it."
"Vanilla?!" They stared at me in horror, as if I'd insulted their ancestors. And then, out of nowhere, they teamed up, shaking me back and forth, yelling something I was too disoriented to hear.
How did my life end up like this?
"Shut up, Nagi. Trust me, I'll show you a life more exciting than any nap or game," Reo said, yanking me by the collar, his face way too close for comfort.
"...Wah...fine, I'll believe you. But promise me one thing..." I mumbled, glancing at the creepy guy smirking behind us as we walked through the gate. "Stay with me till the end."
"I promise, Nagi," Reo said, all intense. "We're gonna be the best in the world."
We made our way onto the bus, and Reo immediately scanned the seats, dragging me along as he found an empty spot. I barely noticed the face of the person next to us, too absorbed in my game.
"Hey there!" a cheerful voice rang out, almost too femine.
"Hi," Reo replied as he settled in, and I squished into the seat beside him.
