13: Homebro

Clint Lavenwood sat upon his bed as he glanced through the series of yearbook photos and those that were posted online by him or Haven, and sometimes other people who appeared to be convenient within the moment of those blasted parties they attended. And in every single photo she looked graciously beautiful to him.

He missed her so much as much as he hates admitting that. Her snarky comments, her contagious laugh and the way she spoke such high authority even as she cringed her nose. Lost in thought, his bedroom door opened revealing his mother. She was a bit on the older side, nearing her late forties already with a frail body and whitening hair.

"The Jamesons called for you, dear," his mother nearly whispered as she glanced at her son with a pitiful glance. At that his lungs released a heavy amount of air from his chest as he swung off his bed and nodded at his thin mother.

Slowly, Clint passed his mother as he walked out the door to hop in his Jeep towards the Jameson household. He didn't know what to think about the situation, both girls being within the arena. Both possibly torn to shreds.

As he shifted the gear, he thought of Haven when she was on her younger side. Her goofy grin with missing teeth and high ponytails, even her beaten up knees that she would scrape up after chasing the neighborhood boys around. Even after that when she hit middle school and her features were forming, she was still his Haven. She was still the same girl that was just becoming reserved.

His heart pounded against his chest at the thought of her, was it love or just loneliness? His mind was settled, however. He was going to get her back.

They sealed a oath.

Haven wasn't sure how to feel about Alpha Jax's tactic or the fact that if something happens to Luke, she could die. That right there was too unsettling for her taste, and also a bit unrealistic. Even still, she walked with all three men towards the first stage of the examinattions, at least she assumed so.

Her lengthy legs nearly had to run as she tried keeping up with Thomas, Jax and Luke as they easily walked towards the doors as they stood high above her height. But she kept herself away from Luke, she hated the fact that he had the nerve to claim her as his.

Quickly, the doors strode up as it revealed the rooms metal based tools and furniture, mixed with various chemicals and smells, that forced Haven to cringe. This was definitely not the first stage Haven had been to that day.

"We have no choice but to try this," Jax stated as the muscles in his back tensed. He quickly turned around to glance at all three of the younger wolves that stood before him.

"My pack and I focus on medicines that can heal the body faster, stronger and even... as we've been experimenting... numb the bond of mates."

Instantly, the sound of booming laughter left the throat of Thomas, who stood bending down next to her. His hands grasped his stomach as if it were to jump out, "Aw shit. You're good, Jax. Too good."

Jax stood there, however. His face stern as he looked towards Luke, standing there calm and collected. "What do we need to do to get this over with?" he stated with his broad shoulders straight and hands in his pockets.

Stiffly, Jax leaned his weight against his left leg, "I need to take a bit of blood from both of you and mix it a bit together. The medication we created attacks enzymes within the blood that ignites the bond. It should be numb for nearly two weeks."

"But, she'll be in the arena for four!" Thomas inputted a bit peeved at this idea.

"Let's get it done with," Luke implied. Quickly, Haven snapped her head towards him, he didn't even hear what she had to say or even glance at her.

"Sit on the stools if you must, I'm going to grab clean needles," Jax stated as he walked away, motioning Thomas to follow him. "Let the two be."

Haven stood there stiffly, unsure on what to do or what to say to her "mate". However, he easily walked away from her, and took a seat at the metal table.

And she watched his every move, taking him in and analyzing to see what he would his next action would be. "I'd appreciate it if you stop staring, my wolf can't bare it with your scent as it is."

"What do I have to do to get out of this mess?" Haven folded her arms into her chest as she turned towards Luke.

"You can't get out of the mate bond," he shrugged his shoulders as he placed his elbows on the table to fumble with his black hair as his piercing eyes bored into hers.

"No, I meant fighting. Jason stated I can't hide forever, I have to fight.'

"Well, I could mark you and this could resolve that you'd be taken out of the arena. But the mark leads to mating, are you willing?"

The air froze between the two as the the conversation tensed. She wasn't in love with this Luke Evans and frankly, she wasn't going to sell her soul or connect whatever it is to his.

"If I can take my sister out as well, then yes," Haven decided. She would pay the price for her sister to be able to live longer. "As long as she stays with me, no matter what. I would stand with yes."

"We have a issue with that, Haven." And oh god, how she loved the way his tongue slipped her name. The way his voice pronounced the syllables and perfect harmony...

"Her wolf could reject my command and my pack when I give the bite. If that happens she dies. But either way she would have to enter the arena, it's the law. She is not my mate nor any other Alphas."

Just then Jax and Thomas by his side entered the room once more, needles in their hands along with blood bags.

"Did you two discuss your options?" Jax rose his brows.

"Give me the meds. My sister is out there and I won't let her suffer again."
