Kavya's POV
I wanted to spend some time alone, and it was the perfect time. My office had already told me to stay at home today. I don't know if they don't want me there or if they are just caring. I was feeling better, so I started preparing lunch while Aaryan got up. I wrapped up his lunch box and placed it on the table.
When I turned around, I found him wrapped in a towel, which I wanted to unveil. Oh my god, what am I thinking? I dragged myself out of my dirty mind and smiled at him. I set two plates at the table for breakfast. It's been ages since we had breakfast together.
Once he got ready, we both settled at the table, ready to dive in. I was just thinking about how he lifted me yesterday; that wasn't in my wildest dreams.
I felt like he had been putting a lot of effort into us, but I was not.
"Hello?" His voice brought me back to reality.
"Yeah," I started eating.
"Do you have something on your mind?" he asked as he took his first bite.
"No, I was just thinking..." I paused.
"Do you want to share it with me?" He voiced those words, and I was surprised at how far we had come. From not talking while eating to having an actual conversation.
"Maybe some other time?" I laughed.
"Sure." He smiled back. "You should probably call your mother; she was hyper worried yesterday."
"Yeah, I will. I miss her so much," I said.
"Do you want to go home for a few days?" he asked, and I became curious. The last time he asked me to go home was when he lost his job.
"Everything alright?" I asked right away.
He chuckled. "Everything is alright. It's just that I feel bad you don't feel at home here."
"Hey," I was a bit shocked and placed my hand on his. "I do like it here. Where is this coming from?" Tension was visible on my face.
"I know, but recently it's getting harder and harder for me to see you suffer even a little bit," he spoke as he finished his breakfast and placed his plate in the sink. It felt sweet that he cared, but he was under the wrong impression that I was suffering.
"Thank you, but I am happy here..." I paused. "...with you." I smiled at him.
He smiled back. "Well, that's nice to hear."
He picked up his lunch box and was about to go, but I stopped him. "Wait, you didn't say it back."
He laughed. "I didn't say what back?" He looked funny.
"That you like being with me too," I spoke those words in an instant. I couldn't stop myself from asking again, "Am I snoring again?"
"What??" He laughed. Oh my, I felt like I had shared too much about myself.
"Again? Since when do you snore?" he asked playfully.
"No, I never!" I interrupted him and placed my plate in the sink as well. My face went blank. "See you tonight." It was a forced goodbye because I didn't want that conversation to continue.
I walked toward the door where he was standing. He was about to go, but he turned around and gave me a confused look. "Do I snore?" he asked. What kind of question is that? I couldn't hold my laughter. I just closed the door, shaking my head.
I turned around, and there it was: an all-empty house for myself. I was excited to spend some time alone this time.
My phone rang, and my lips curled up in a smile as I heard an excited voice on the other side.
"What is up, bestie? You forgot your bestie in a day, huh?" Natasha asked playfully.
"I do remember my bestie," I laughed. She always brings energy and excitement, which I resisted in the beginning, but now I am liking it.
"How is your health? Nishit told me about it today. Idiot, he is telling me today, when you were sick yesterday!" she complained.
"It's fine; I am good now," I spoke.
"Well, I sent you a gift. Go check it out outside," she said, and I was excited. My heart was pumping faster, and a rush of happiness spread across my face.
I ran to the door. God knows when was the last time I was this excited. I opened the door, and my eyes got big while my lips curled up in a big smile as I received a warm hug.
"Well, you have the most precious gift right in front of you," Natasha claimed.
I felt so happy to see her. After how things ended last time, I wanted to talk to her anyway.
"You are such a gift; thank you," I said out loud.
We both settled on the sofa. "And sorry for the other day."
Before I could finish, she started, "You are just breaking code after code. Don't you ever say sorry to me again. Jokes apart, I understand things got messy that night. I hope everything is alright now."
"Yeah, everything is back to normal," I said.
"I thought of dropping by; it's good that you recovered well. But next time you're not feeling good, you know whom to call, okay? I don't like getting news from someone else about my bestie."
I guess she did take those words seriously when she asked me to be her best friend on game night. Well, it's nice to have someone around. I am happy to explore it. Try to become besties? I will try, though I am not experienced in that.
We talked a lot; she invited me to go with her to her office, but I wasn't up for it today. Maybe some other day. The day went by, and I was just waiting for night to come. I was excited for probably our first? Date night? I got butterflies just thinking about it. I didn't know what to expect.
I did tell her a few things that happened and caused the issue the other day; she understood, and I felt a bit of relief. I was all alone after the afternoon, and I went to the bedroom and laid down. Before I could think of anything, I fell asleep. Is it the medicine? I don't know how I do that.
