♡ The girl had packed all the gifts she’d prepared for the boy into her bag; tomorrow was his birthday. Everything seemed perfect, and she believed that with this gift and letter, things would finally be right between them.
■ On that very day, her father was going through her bag to retrieve a book and noticed a chocolate and a perfume among her belongings. The girl had already told her girl best friend about her breakup, and while she was on the phone discussing the birthday gift plans, her mother overheard.
♡ It’s often said that fate can disrupt even our best intentions. The girl’s parents had now realized she had a boyfriend and was planning to give him chocolate and perfume for his birthday. Her parents called her in and asked her to tell them the truth. Scared, she began crying and explained that the boy's name was Arav, a friend from 8th grade. They became closer in 10th grade, eventually best friends, and then fell for each other, becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. She confessed that when pre-board exams approached, she started ignoring him to focus on her studies, which upset him. Hurt by her actions, he broke up with her, and it had now been two months since he had blocked her. She thought that if she gave him the gift tomorrow, he might talk to her again, and they could at least become friends.
♡ The girl didn’t share every detail with her parents—like the fact she planned to give him additional gifts, which her father hadn’t seen, or that her breakup had emotionally affected her to the point of hospitalization. She hadn’t told her parents that she still liked him.
♡ Her parents scolded her but then tried to gently explain that it was normal to feel this way at her age, but she should focus on her studies and avoid giving him any gifts. They told her to focus only on her upcoming board exams and stay away from the boy. Her parents warned her that boys often use girls and, if anything went wrong, society would blame her, damaging her reputation, while no one would question the boy. They reminded her of all these things out of concern for her well-being.
♡ The girl had always listened to her parents, but this was the first time she felt they were wrong. She trusted the boy completely and was convinced he wasn’t using her; he was genuinely good-hearted. She felt that he cared for her just as deeply as her parents did. She couldn’t pinpoint when her feelings for him grew so strong, but everything her parents said now felt unfair.
♡ She promised her parents that she wouldn’t speak to him, stay away from him, and only focus on her studies. But this was a lie. She desperately wanted to speak to him, fix things, and couldn’t imagine being apart from him. The fear of losing him forever made her take risks she’d never considered before.
♡ That night, she called her best friend and asked her to bring chocolates for the boy the next day. She’d bring the other gifts and the letter herself, and she confided in her best friend that her parents had found out everything.
♡ The next day, the boy was sure the girl would try to talk to him, wish him a happy birthday, and give him a gift. But he wanted nothing to do with her. He wants to show girl that he didn’t care about her and now she is her ex.
♡ At school, it was customary for whoever’s birthday it was to give chocolates to everyone, so he had to hand out chocolates too. During the break, while the girl was outside the classroom, he gave chocolates to everyone else. He even gave out her favorite chocolates but didn’t give one to her. When she returned, her classmates teased her, saying her ex-boyfriend had given chocolates to everyone but her. That day, he wore a black shirt—a shirt he had promised her he’d wear on his birthday, along with her favorite chocolates, so they could celebrate his second birthday together as a couple. His first birthday was the day he joined her school, and the second was supposed to be the one they’d celebrate as a couple. Remembering all this, she broke down at school and ran to the restroom, unable to hold back her tears. Her best friend came to comfort her, calming her down, but she was hurt. She wondered how he could ignore her on his birthday when she’d lied to her parents, prepared gifts, and written a heartfelt letter for him. In anger, she threw away the gifts and burn the letter.
♡ Later that night, her anger had subsided, and she longed to wish him a happy birthday. She called him from her own number, and he had, surprisingly, unblocked her that day, anticipating she’d call.
♡ When she called, he answered, and she wished him a happy birthday, telling him he looked good in his black shirt. But he coldly replied, “Who are you? Why do you keep calling me? Don’t you have anything better to do? I don’t know you.” Then he blocked her again.
♡ She couldn’t bear it anymore—the boy’s anger, his changed behavior, her parents’ scolding. She felt she couldn’t live in a world without him and wants to end her life.
♡ Today, writing this story, I’d like to say: Never lose yourself so much over someone else. Trust in God, and never, ever consider something as drastic as suicide.
♡As she was thinking of this, her best friend called. Without a word, she began to cry over the phone, telling her friend she wanted him, that she needed to talk to him, that she loved him. She begged her friend to help, saying she’d end her life if she couldn’t be with him. Her best friend scolded her, saying, “Are you crazy? Are you seriously thinking of ending your life over a boy? The Tanya I know is a topper, someone who never cried over a guy, who only cared about her studies. Boards are coming up, and yet you’re still thinking about a boy who doesn’t respect you, who only gets angry and doesn’t care to listen to you.” She told her friend that Tanya deserved better and shouldn’t shed another tear over this boy. Her friend’s words helped her realize that she couldn’t even think of ending her life over someone else, especially not him. She decided to focus on her board exams and stop thinking about him.
■ Now, how does the boy’s behavior change so drastically? What does he truly think of her? Are they really separated for good, or is there a twist after the boards? All this and more will be revealed in the next part.
