It was already pretty light out when I walked out of the caravan. And even though it was light outside and no one was really around anymore, I could still feel a gaze on me.
Two dark eyes were looking at me and I swear I could see a grin on a man's face.
I frowned, walked closer to the man before someone grabbed my arm and pulled me with him.
"Jamie? What are you doing?" I grumbled as he pulled me with him.
"Me? What are you still doing here? You should be asleep"
He pulled me inside, to our room and closed the door behind him.
"Calm down, I was just trying to find my mother" I took my arm back. Was he crazy or something?
"You won't find her there" he raised his voice just a little. But that wasn't what scared me, it was how sure he sounded.
How sure he was that I wouldn't find my answers there and I clearly didn't.
"Are you Phoenix?"
Pretty dumb question considering Phoenix possibly fell in love with my mother and Jamie was about my age.
But some stories said Phoenix was immortal, that he didn't age.
And Jamie, he was the kind of guy everyone could fall head over heels for.
Charming, cheeky, handsome and if he was the leader of Utopia, then he was insanely creative as well.
But the fortune teller said no one knew Phoenix's identity and every shopkeeper seemed to recognize Jamie from somewhere.
Besides, if Jamie was Phoenix, then I also had to admit magic was real.
And it just wasn't.
He looked at me before he started laughing. "Do you really think I would have time to chaperone you around if I was Phoenix?"
"Then why are you chaperoning me around?" I asked, maybe a little too annoyed.
He shrugged. "Because you're cute?"
"I don't believe that"
"That you're cute or that I am chaperoning you because you're definitely very cute?" He took a step closer, tilted his head playfully.
"B-both?"
He chuckled, took another step closer as he smiled. His smile was definitely the prettiest thing I've ever saw.
I cleared my throat, taking a step back. "So you're not here to save me?"
"Do you need saving?" He asked, leaning against the wall but not taking a step closer to me.
"Not really" I shrugged, trying to sound all casual but c'mon, he looked so fucking handsome right now.
The sleeves of his white shirt were rolled up, the top buttons were unbuttoned and he was looking at me with a smirk on his face.
"I wouldn't mind saving you, I've never been the hero before"
In many stories he's the villain.
I said nothing, I kept thinking about what the fortune teller said.
She looked in my eyes as if she was warning me.As if I was close to Phoenix. Too close.
What if I was sleeping in the same room?
"Are you okay?" Jamie frowned as he looked at me.
I nodded. "Yeah perfect"
Luckily I could lie again because I was definitely not fine.
"We will search for your mother together, tomorrow" he said as he pointed at the bed. "Go to sleep"
"Don't you need sleep?"
"I do" he nodded and looked at the couch. "I will be right here, butterfly"
