Nikita Volkov
Nikita couldn't shake the heavy weight in her chest after finally confronting Luca. It was as if an old wound had been ripped open and forced to heal all over again. Despite her strength, her fierce loyalty to Nikolai, and her new life in the Russo family, memories of her past with Luca lingered like a shadow. She leaned against the window, looking out at the dark, sprawling city below, catching her own reflection in the glass. She saw a woman transformed—no longer the naive girl who had trusted Luca, but someone hardened by betrayal and driven by a hunger for justice.
Footsteps approached. She didn't turn; she already knew it was Nikolai. He stood beside her, his reflection joining hers in the glass. Without a word, he slipped his hand around hers, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
"You know," she murmured, her voice low and almost defeated, "I never thought I'd feel this way. That I'd be so grateful to see him gone... and yet..."
Nikolai's grip tightened. "He was a mistake, Nikita. But he's nothing but dust now. You made the right choice."
She looked up at him, catching the fierce glint in his eyes. He was protective, powerful, and, even though he'd never say it out loud, jealous of the past she shared with Luca. But now Luca was gone—and that past had no power over them anymore.
Unforeseen Guests
Just as they were beginning to feel a strange sense of relief, one of Nikolai's men, Dimitri, knocked on the door, looking tense. "Boss, we've got visitors."
Nikolai arched an eyebrow. "Who?"
"Cardenas's men. They want to negotiate."
Nikita stiffened. "Negotiate? After everything?"
Nikolai's smirk was dark. "This should be interesting."
The Meeting Room
Nikita and Nikolai entered the meeting room to find a few of Cardenas's men waiting. They were visibly nervous, their eyes darting around as if expecting an ambush. One of them, a man with a grizzled face and a scar slicing through his eyebrow, stepped forward.
"Mr. Russo, Ms. Volkov," he began, his voice wavering. "Cardenas is ready to propose a truce."
Nikita snorted, crossing her arms. "A truce? After all the chaos he unleashed? After everything he put us through?"
The man's expression didn't change. "Cardenas didn't want it to go this far. Luca acted on his own... and he's willing to put it all behind him if you are."
Nikolai laughed, the sound cold and biting. "He must be desperate if he's sending you here with that message. But he has no idea who he's dealing with."
Rising Tensions
The conversation grew heated, both sides trading sharp words. Nikita and Nikolai knew they couldn't trust Cardenas—this so-called truce was likely a trap. But they played along, letting Cardenas's men believe they were considering it.
As the men left, Nikita turned to Nikolai, her eyes blazing. "We're not actually going to let him off, are we?"
Nikolai shook his head, a smirk tugging at his lips. "No. We'll make him regret every move he's made against us."
Later That Night
After the meeting, they returned to the quiet of their room, exhaustion finally catching up with them. But the adrenaline from the day hadn't faded, and Nikita felt a spark of defiance surge through her. She leaned in close to Nikolai, a mischievous smile playing on her lips.
"What?" he asked, one eyebrow raised.
"Just thinking about how much trouble we've gotten ourselves into." Her tone was playful, her eyes daring.
Nikolai chuckled, his hand resting on her waist, pulling her closer. "You have a habit of dragging me into it."
She laughed, pulling him down for a deep kiss, letting the stress of the day melt away. This was her escape, her solace, and the fiery bond that tied them together was stronger than any threat they faced. In that moment, there was only them.
