Nikita Volkov
Nikita felt different. After everything they'd been through—the missions, the close calls, the raw connection between them—something was shifting, becoming undeniable. She could feel it in the way Nikolai looked at her, and she wondered if he felt it too. For the first time in a long time, she felt like she had someone she could trust completely. But she wasn't naive. In their world, trust was fragile. And Nikolai, with all his power and charm, had secrets she could only guess at.
She found herself lost in thought as she stood by the balcony, looking over the sprawling city lights, feeling a strange sense of calm—one she wasn't used to. But the silence was broken when Nikolai joined her, slipping his arms around her waist, pulling her back against him.
"Lost in thought?" he murmured, his breath warm against her ear.
She leaned into him, her fingers tracing lazy patterns on his hand. "Just wondering what's next for us, really."
He chuckled, but there was an edge to it. "As long as Cardenas is still out there, there's only one thing next for us: taking him down."
Nikita turned to face him, searching his eyes. "And after that?"
He hesitated, just for a second, and she caught it. The confidence, the control—cracks beginning to show.
"After that..." he trailed off, a faint vulnerability flickering behind his intense gaze. "I don't know, Nikita. This life doesn't leave room for afters."
The Unexpected Visit
Before she could respond, there was a knock on the door. Nikolai's eyes sharpened, and he immediately straightened, all business again. They hadn't been expecting anyone tonight.
He moved to answer the door, his hand subtly reaching for his gun, and Nikita followed, ready for anything. When he opened it, Dimitri stood on the other side, looking as tense as they'd ever seen him.
"We've got a problem," Dimitri said, his voice low and urgent. "Cardenas's men... they've made a move."
Nikolai's expression darkened. "Where?"
Dimitri's gaze flicked to Nikita, hesitating. "It's... they hit your family's old estate, Nikita. They're trying to send a message."
The words settled over her like ice. That estate was one of the last pieces of her family's legacy. Her brother's memory, her entire childhood—it was all there. And Cardenas was using it as a pawn.
Nikolai caught the look in her eyes and placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "We'll handle this, Nikita. Together."
Breaking Point
They set off immediately, a fire in both their hearts, but this time it was different. As they arrived at the estate, Nikita saw the wreckage left behind, and something inside her snapped. Her past, her family—she'd lost so much already. She couldn't stand by and let Cardenas or anyone else take more from her.
Nikolai stayed close, his presence grounding her as they assessed the damage. But the fire in her eyes didn't go unnoticed by him.
"You look ready to take down the entire cartel," he muttered, smirking, but his tone was softer, understanding.
"I am," she replied fiercely. "And I won't stop until every one of them is gone."
Turning the Tables
Back at their base, they hatched a new plan—a bolder, riskier one. Nikita was done playing defense, and so was Nikolai. They were going to take the fight to Cardenas, and they wouldn't stop until they had dismantled everything he'd built.
"Are you ready?" Nikolai asked her, eyes dark with intensity.
Nikita looked up at him, a fire burning in her gaze. "More than ever."
Together, they prepared for the final showdown, side by side, knowing that with each battle they fought, the closer they came to the peace they both craved. But there was something more now—a feeling neither could quite put into words. This was more than revenge. It was survival, yes, but it was also about reclaiming their future.
And this time, they would stop at nothing to win it.
